N-400 with a pending I-751 (visa ban)

Brazil is one of the new additions to the PAUSE list of countries. I understand that, at the moment, this only applies to consular and embassy visa processing, but we all know it’s likely just a matter of time before USCIS starts doing the same.

I was planning to file my N-400 after filing my 2025 taxes, probably around March. Now, though, I’m hesitant to file it because I’ve read that USCIS issues a new extension letter for the N-400, and that it’s shorter than the current 48-month extension from the I-751.

I have a gut feeling that I should just wait and hope the I-751 process is completed first, but I’m still unsure if that’s the right course of action. I'd like to hear your opinions. Thank you.

I'm not sure this affects anything other than visa issuing.  I'm sure we will know soon as members have I-751s and N-400s in progress.  I would NOT wait for the I-751 to be finished.  I would absolutely submit an N-400 as soon as qualified.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..
