As of August 1st 2025 :

5 - 7 month Backlog in Johannesburg, South Africa ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ for CR1 / IR1 cases

If you hope for your Spouse to be in the ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ by Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ or Christmas ๐ŸŽ„ 2025 Transfer elsewhere NOT Joburg!

They have been hit w tons of old DQs from 2024!

And they have been hit w Student F1 / J1 and DV Visas trying to get processed by August 30th and Sept 30th respectively.

Are you sure? Interviews are currently being scheduled for those DQ'ed in April. Even the quickest consulates are 2-3 months from DQ to interview date so that's not too much longer - there are other consulates where the wait is over 1-2+ years for an interview including other African countries. ย All consulates have a summer slowdown for immigrant visas due to the reasons you gave above, although I agree that a transfer can be worthwhile for some if they're eligible (it's not usually possible to just choose another consulate without a good reason i.e. being resident in that country).
