Hey,

my interview is coming up and we are finalizing our binder with documents. We are hesitant with our joint sponsors document. In the interview appointment notice it says "If required, a completed form I-864 with all required evidence (unless already submitted).

Now, we submitted everything already with our AOS application. Later on it states under "If your eligibility is based on your marriage, in addition to your husband or wife coming to the interview with you, bring:"

And then it lists this: "The originals and copies of each supporting document you submitted with your application. Otherwise, we may keep your originals for our records.".

This is where we are unsure on whether this includes everything submitted with the I-864 as well. Our joint sponsor probably would not want us to run around with his original birth certificate and passport/ID.

Does anyone have an answer here?

If you refer to the I-864 instructions, where did you see that original documents are needed for sponsor citizenship proof and that two forms of proof (birth certificate and passport) are required? A photocopy of one of those documents should be sufficient.

Read the instructions carefully. Consider using highlighters of different colors and marking out instructions that don't apply to you so you can focus on what matters.

Everything you submitted means “everything you submitted “

They tell you to bring the original documents ( the ones you either copied and mailed in or scanned and submitted electronically) that accompanies your application. ALL

In addition, photocopy each of the originals so that , if they need to retain anything, they will take the copy and return the originals to you.

yes that would be the black/white answer. I am saying that is also clearly says "If required, a completed form I-864 with all required evidence (unless already submitted)."

The section where it says "everything you submitted" is referring to If your eligibility is based on your marriage, in addition to your husband or wife coming to the interview with you, bring:"

For me .. go with the black and white answer. If you sent a document in, take the original and a copy.   Nothing to lose doing so

It's there version of CYA. If something isn't clear or lost or missing, they can state that the told you to bring it with you and it's not there fault that you didn't. Have everything related with immigration with you. I had a folder that had all documents (original and a copy) organized and labeled just in case they asked for something. Saved me during the ROC interview when stuff had gone missing from my file and I was able to hand them a copy right there and then.

well i did not expect it to be this easy. did not need a single document from my 300 page binder :D

i guess it is still important to just have everything ready and with you. lets you have some peace of mind. also, for lifting conditions in about 2 years you could basically need everything again

This is classic. When you're ready and have tons of evidence - nothing is needed. But when you walk in unprepared and emptyhanded - strange things happen.

So... The morale of the story is: better to be overprepared.

And you're right, you'll need this for removal of conditions.
