Apologies for the one part rant and one part actual curiosity in advance. Just very miffed but I do have questions. x_x

So I recently scheduled an appointment for the partial i693, having already done a medical exam in Canada. This second one to include with my DS 3025 from the first medical exam, apparently, is $425 in fees. Is this normal? My formerly-fiancee-now-wife is distressed over this sudden revelation of additional cost that isn't at all covered by my US health coverage.

I did ask why it was so much, and they said it was *because* the initial medical examination was done out of the country. At which I have to ask what the heck the point of the first one even was? Especially considering the comparable pricing. Yikes!

was your DS-3025 complete and marked as complete?

if so you don't have to do the partial I-693 at all.

you can just include a copy of the DS-3025 and a cover letter explaining that you completed a medical exam in your country and voluntarily received all of the required vaccinations.

"

The following aliens applying for adjustment of status must submit a partial Form I-693 (Parts 1.-5., Part 7, and Part 10, Vaccination Record) when they file their adjustment application if their vaccination record was not properly completed and included as part of the immigration medical examination conducted by a panel physician outside the United States:

  • Aliens admitted to the United States as a spouse, or child of a spouse, of a U.S. citizen or fiancé(e) or child of a fiancé(e) of a U.S. citizen (K-1/K-2/K-3/K-4 Nonimmigrant) who already completed an immigration medical examination conducted by a panel physician outside the United States no more than 1 year before they file to adjust their status;"

... So, I'm dumb, but kinda glad I'm dumb. Hahahahaha. But yeah, kinda wish this was clearer on the USCIS page. I would not have been able to point that out or find it if you hadn't made that section bold. When i read a lot of lines tend to blend together and for my wife it's kind of the same thing.

it is also more clearly stated in the I-693 instructions

"What if I am a K nonimmigrant visa holder and already completed an immigration medical examination
abroad?
If you were admitted as a:
   A. K-1 fiancé(e) or a K-2 child of a K-1 fiancé(e); or
   B. K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen or a K-4 child of a K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen; and
   C. You received a medical examination prior to admission, then:
(1) You are not required to complete another immigration medical examination as long as you file your Form
I-485 within one year of an immigration medical examination completed outside the United States
; and
(a) The panel physician did not find a Class A medical condition during your imigration medical examination;
or
Form I-693 Instructions 01/20/25 Page 8 of 12
(b) The panel physician did find a Class A medical condition, you received a waiver of inadmissibility, and
you have complied with the terms and conditions of the waiver.
(2) Even if a new immigration medical examination is not required, you must still show proof that you complied
with the vaccination requirements.
If the vaccination record (DS 3025) was not properly completed and
included as part of the original medical examination report completed abroad, you will need to have the Part
10. Vaccination Record completed by a designated civil surgeon. In this case, you must submit Parts 1. - 5.,
7., and 10. of Form I-693."

so as long as your DS-3025 is complete, no need to go spending an extra $400 lol
