Hi everyone,

My priority date is current, and I have received the interview letter. My appointment is scheduled for 16/07/2025. (EB2-NIW).

Location: Paris, France

I have a question:

Currently, I am not working because my postdoctoral fellowship contract has ended. I am actively applying for jobs and also started writing a project.

How can I explain my current status during the interview at the U.S. consulate?

What should I say or do to justify my situation?

Is there any negative impact on my case?

Also, any possible ask questions?

I would appreciate your guidance.

Thank you in advance.

No negative impact as you’re EB2 NIW, so it’s not like you need the job offer to get the visa. Just tell the truth, exactly as you did above.

It is hard to say what the CO will ask at the interview.  More than likely they will review the DS form(s) you filled out, discuss the evidence you submitted showing your qualifications, review any issues (if any) with admissibility, etc.  There are examples online with a simple search in your favorite search engine.  I agree with @appleblossom, since you are NIW, the job situation will not be a priority.

Good Luck!

Any possible questions from consular officer?

Yes. Of course you’ll get questions, no way of knowing what they’ll be though. You can search the forum for interview experiences from others to give you an idea.

As it’s Paris it shouldn’t be too tricky and unless your job is on the TAL list and/or you were born in a more problematic country than France, you’ll hopefully have your visa very soon.

Good luck.
