Which one is he?

I've heard the term "empty nest" but I can't internalize it yet.................

He's pretty much in the middle of the photo. Skinny kid in denim shorts and white shirt, sunglasses and ponytail.

It feels like a hole in your heart the size of Kansas. Like when you watch a beautiful kite reel out slowly, sway in the breeze, and then the string suddenly snaps...............

*SIGH* It feels this way now when my daughter has to go to her biological father. I can't imagine what it will feel like when THIS day comes for me.

((((((((((((Becca))))))))))))) Missin' ya my friend. :)

Luz, he's 19.

Most kids are 15 when they start their freshman year in highschool. I'm sure our system is different than what Robin is used to - it's hard to say whether it's 'ahead' or 'behind' of the Phillipine system. There's probably no way to determine that till he starts classes.

After a month or so of classes, if he seems bored or 'ahead' of the other kids, I would speak to his guidance counselor about getting him placed forward. There may be some testing he could take that would move him forward.

I don't think it's a worry that he will be a year older. Kids in America are so 'overly mature' these days (in some ways). I don't think he will feel like he's with 'babies'.

I'd be more worried about him being so handsome and the girls being 'giggly' .......................lol

Luz University here in USA is typically for those following High school grade 12. that is normally between age of 17-18. Reason why i say typical.. depending on child.. depending on state.. some schools offer college credited courses for high school some students graduate early .. bla bla bla.

but most typical is college for freshmen first year normal age is 18-19 yrs old.

Anyone can begin at any age.. haha..

I began my college right out of HS age 18.. stopped at 20.. but then at 32 began all over.. tell him never to old...

I had to restart at age 32 from the beginning.. finally graduated with my masters at 40 ..

My oldest daughter began at 18.. went to OSU for 3.5 yrs.. one term till graduating.. then stopped .. and went to Culinary school after learning she cannot get financial aid (for the program) after she completes the BA so she stopped now.. she is now married.. and returned to college to finish up her final degree.. adding a new degree... and is currently 27 yrs .. but this time it is on her coin purse for financial doings.. hehe..

BECCA..... Congrats on your wee one spreading his wings.. he has a strong momma.. he will do just fine.. .. hint.. one way my daughter and I made closer connections when she was away in the dorm... we found a tv show we would watch.. and following the show.. would get online and discuss.. ie.. argue.. hahaha.. show.. was survivor .. when it first began.. then it moved onto a internet game we jointly played.. called Utopia.. by swirve.. sometimes finding some offwall similar connection helps.. hugs to ya both

also, tell him, that I heard from a wise person, that God..does not hold you accountable for any bad behavior your displayed or engaged in ...while in college... ( at least, i hope it is true  )

I'm late to the party, RJ - I apologize. Our weekend trip has me behind on everything!!

Anyway, I'm sure it was a great mix of emotions for you. But you should be very proud of him (I'm sure you are) for what he's accomplished so far and what's yet to come. I wasn't in my college marching band - thought it'd be too stressful on top of adjusting to college life and classes, etc. So I admire his work ethic!! :)

Go Zach, go!!!

Yes I am a little behind on this topic, I realize.

My apologies.

I currently suffer from my own empty nest syndrome. And that gaping hole in my heart is more like the grand canyon than Kansas.

She, however, is at the "other" college in the state. Goooo Herd

They will make it through this phase of their lives and so will we.
