From what I understand, as long as you haven’t filed your AOS yet, you’re still allowed to apply for a Social Security Number - as long as your I-94 is still valid and hasn’t expired.

I think you might have problems if within 14 days of expiration.

Did you make an appointment?

most if not all SS offices require appointments now

Not yet. I will next week or at the end of this week. I was waiting to see if his birth certificate copy came in time. He has it now so no hold up there. I work 3/ 12's the next few days so I'll have to call after that. I might just wait until he gets here at this point because, provided the stupid air-jamming strikes in Paris don't cause any more hold ups... he will be here in 10 days.

It hardly feels real. We've been planning this for over 8 years. I'm having difficulty wrapping my head around it now that it's finally here.

I think because my life is so insanely busy with school, work, kids, and the daily grind of life... it all just sorta snuck up on me.

My girlfriends invited me out for girls night and when I got there it was a surprise wedding shower! Honestly, it hadn't even occured to me to think of something like that lol!

It's best to get SSN before marrying

It's best to apply for the SSN before marrying.  In my case, my fiance (now wife) applied before we married and she did not get her SSN until after we married.

I applied on-line for both him and his daughter. The earliest appointment was Aug. 13. Do I need to wait until after this appointment to get married? Will it mess anything up if we get married before the appointment at SSN office as far as how we filed for his SSN online?

I might end up waiting anyway, to be safe. I'm just considering my options because the timeline will be tight with other things I must do (take my son back to college, begin my clinicals, etc...)

if you get married before, you might run into the issue of someone at the SSO saying you can't get the SSN because the visa has been "used" since you got married.

but you technically have until 2 weeks before his I-94 expires. so you should be able to apply for one within 75 days of his arrival regardless.
