Some VJ reported being interviewed formally or semi-formally for spouse's N-400. Some sat through spouse's N-400. It's not common, but happens

even if not removing conditions?

at least here they won't even let you in if you're not required for an interview

I inserted pay stubs to show employment. I showed my progress towards architecture licence in US (experience logged, exams passed) for educational advancement. I included credit score to show financial responsibility. Rest like caregiving, community involvement, legal residence, and taxes, I put in short write ups and made references to evidence already in original submission.

They didn’t ask for it, and I never uploaded it or give it to them. I had it prepared in case it came up.

from what I've seen things haven't really changed around this in the interviews so far, but people suspect it will once the new test takes effect

Hey party people

So months ago I freaked out right after filing after realizing I misunderstood the 90 day rule and marital union.

I thought I would withdraw it, but we decided to play it out as a withdrawal would have taken almost as long.

The major worry of a denial was changes to the test etc besides paying another fee.

Well today was the interview.

I was able to enter the building with my spouse and wait with them.

The wait was much longer than expected. It was about 1.5 hours until being called.

I wasn't allowed into the interview with them.

Long story short... APPROVED.

They were giving people invites for the oath for the following Monday, but they only to that until 2pm.

We were confused if we were supposed to wait or just wait for a letter in the mail. I think the person at the info counter was confused as well, and then one of the workers just decided to schedule us on the spot. They asked if we could do December and asked if there were any plans to travel. I said yes for the holidays, and they said, we'll just schedule you for Monday. So we lucked out on that. There's always that nervousness, what if something happens between now and then.

Best of luck to everyone else.

Would be glad to answer any questions.

Congratulations!  And how fortunate to be scheduled for Monday.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Congratulations 🎉 🎉 🎉

My advice had always been not to withdraw the case.

It's really depends on officers.

It's only those who are inclined of denying cases that will create problems with those early filings.

One thing sure is that they will never call you for interview until you have clocked the number of years required.

Congratulations! Yes, many officers appear to interpret that 3 year living with spouse requirement leniently.

Also great turn around time for the interview.

I think I messed up there with my interview. Trends show that people in my office get they oath invite the same day as interview, but I am yet to receive mine. I think it is because I told the officer I was travelling at the end of the month. The officer wrote a note and said that they would make sure I was scheduled for November then (not October). I did say I wouldn’t mind an earlier date and confident about getting the passport on time, but she didn’t sound convinced.

I was hoping to get the oath before my travel so I had the proof of travel to enable me to apply for same-day passport and not have to send naturalisation certificate. But I opened my big mouth and ruined it all lol.

Anyhoo congratulations, and let us know how your oath goes.

Thank you.

So in this case the residency was fine, it was a question if the marital union part was met, in these cases people still get to the interview and get denied because it's not always so clear until the officer gets into the details.

I think also the city you're in could possibly have nicer or meaner officers. Although our officer seemed strict, he mentioned he was former military.

Thanks

there's still a lot of nervousness until the actual oath happens.

And the woman told us 8:30 but later saw the doc says 10:30. I think she had just been telling all the prior people that time and didn't check.

We might try the buy and cancel method, even they told us about the certificate possibly getting lost when applying for a passport.

What is the buy and cancel method?

Risky thing, which us morally wrong to do. Others need urgent appointments for life and death situations...

It's not worth it, I got my passport in the mail few weeks after applying.

I didn't realize that, I had seen a bunch of people on reddit saying they had done that. Good to know.

I mean, it's not like anybody can prevent people from doing it. And OldUser isn't going to be there stopping somebody in real world 😅. I just dislike the idea personally. My experience doing expedited passport application was very pleasant. Got passport rather quickly. Initially thought about buy & cancel method too, but spouse said it's not good starting life as a US citizen cheating the system 🥲

It also looks like there is specific category for Life and Death which I didn't realize: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/get-fast.html

So maybe buy & cancel isn't affecting those who need to go to funeral etc. Sorry I sounded too harsh to begin with. Just my $0.02.

no it makes sense, sounds like the appointments fill up and someone might actually need the appointment for more legit reasons

Everything is now clear to me.

If you have a legit reason, you can go for an expedite passport process.

For instance if you are traveling internationally in less than 6 weeks.

Thanks 👍
