I Miss English Food

As much as I think food in the US is far better than standard English fare, I still pine for just a few things... Actual sausage and bacon! Real bread! Sausage rolls from Greggs! Marmite!

There are a few things that I know I can still get here, including Marmite, but it's been driving me crazy for the last few months...

Finding anything that closely resembles an English sausage is akin to landing on the moon. We have a buthers near us that sells English sausage, that got a bit upset when I said it wasn't even close.

I want proper Bacon, if I have that I will always be happy. I did find a place called the world market (http://www.worldmarket.com/home.jsp) that sells British stuff like Heinz baked Beans, british tea bags, beer, cider, etc. There is a world market around 3 miles form my house.

I do like the Sausage over here, but I do miss the square sausage I use to get in Scotland, (Lorne Sausage I think is its correct name). I also miss the crusty bread that you can get from Tesco and Morrisons, havent found the crusty bread over here to be that good, its either tough or not crusty.

Last week my hubby took me out for at late breakfast at our local British store, they have a tea room attached to it. We had full English breakfast. Bacon, sausages, fried eggs, beans, toast. It was soooo good. There was the option of black pudding, but neither of us like it so we chose to have an extra slice of back, instead (we could have had another sausage, if we'd wanted). Can't wait to go again.

Well thanks you lot  I was just boasting on another post that I did not miss anything from the UK and neither my hubby or myself are homesick and you all go and mention Greggs pies (the little pork ones with lots of the jelly on the top) and sausage rolls, and worst of all "bacon" I too would just love to get my hands, sorry, teeth around some good old middle bacon. And real english bread, the sort that is made direct in the bakers, sliced and toasted spread with Lurpak butter.....mmmmmmmm lovely.

[The reason god put spaces in between your fingers was so another person's hands could fill it up.

I don't mind Brittish fare! I used to spend American holidays with my Liverpublian (sp?) friends. They had some really great food bought from a market specializing in imported foods from Liverpool and other regions. Most Americans don't care for English fare, as they're pretty teased by the French and so on, but I really love it.

Ive been really missing Activia Prune layered yoghurts.

I know its a bit of a weird one, but I used to go through loads of them at home and assumed the US would have them.

They only have the stirred flavoured Activias here, which simply arent any good.
