I think part of what made that letter effective was the form that provided financial support.  I don't remember what that form number is, but it was included.  I don't know how to effectively indicate our financial ability to support his trip?  (Hahaha on chatgpt.  I might see if it can be summarized that way and then give it to my husband to personally edit from there.  Not a bad idea to get it started.

Honestly, in addition to strong ties to home country, the best selling point is a good travel history (leaving home country and returning).  If he's traveled previously, lean on that.

The only "traveling" he is done is that he was born in the UAE and was raised there for 18 years.  His father was there on a work visa that kept getting renewed every year.  They would travel to and from Jordan multiple times per year to see family.  After they had collected enough savings and investments to move back to Jordan and build a house, they did.  That's about it, though.  My nephew does have some land in his name for him to build his own house when the time comes.  Besides his family and his upcoming job prospect, that's his only other strong tie to his home country.

Yes, that letter is so much better.  Anything longer will have no hope of even being read.

 

To be very clear, the consular will know instantly from his DS-160 and the background check exactly what he wants to know to approve or deny the visa.   That letter will only help if he is basically already approved or needs just a little bit of assurance . That is, it won't come close to overturning what would otherwise be a typical denial.  They are also trained not to use or rely on documents, so it will be rare and lucky if they even read it.  Finally, to even know when and how to submit to the officer will take some skill and luck. You can't just give it to them and tell them to "please read it."

My husband came to the US on a student visa.  He's an introvert and has social anxiety in unfamiliar situations.  When he went to his visa interview, he answered "yes" and "no" and very little else.  He could tell that the officer was getting ready to deny him and then he gave the officer a letter from a friend in the US who was offering some support.  The officer did read it, my husband felt a shift, and he was approved.  Our nephew has a similar personality.  If the officer reads it, fine.  If (s)he doesn't, fine.  My husband just wanted to say what he wanted to say.  If it appeals to the officer, great.  If the officer feels it's too wordy and they aren't interested, our loss.

If he stayed/married and adjusted on a nonimmigrant student visa, that doesn't bode well for your nephew.  What's to stop him from doing the same thing?

Lots of people meet their spouse while in college, international students and domestic students, alike.  Additionally, my husband did everything 100% legally and according to the letter of the law.  There were no overstays or any period of time when he was not honoring all terms of his status.  Adjusting status from a student visa is written into the law as allowed.  There is nothing he did that would not bode well for our nephew.

 

A summer vacation isn't enough time to get married, especially for our nephew, who has made it perfectly clear that he has no interest in living here.  When he graduated high school, we offered to help him study in the US, but he said it was too long to stay here and he completed his university studies in Jordan.  He's really not interested in being here long term.

Essentially, nephew will have to convince officer he doesn't have any immigration intent. He may have less than a minute for the entire interview at consulate. We just point out possible issues. He can try getting visa. Maybe it'll be successful, maybe not. Good luck!

Of course there are people who use the misuse the visitor visa as a marriage visa.  But, he knows no one here except his uncle, his aunt, and his cousin.  He's shy and introverted and loves where he lives.  Do I think he will be approved?  Probably not, honestly.  We knew that from the outset, and I mentioned that in my first post.  But, I came here for advice for him to make the most of our $185. Haha!

I'm certainly not saying he plans to overstay.  I am saying that when another family member has adjusted status on a nonimmigrant visa, it does get the attention of visa officers.
