Congrats!

Unsolicited advice #1: make sure your husband updates status with SSA. Checkbox on N-400 form doesn't take care of it.

Unsolicited advice #2: Let him apply for large passport book. It's same size but has more pages. It doesn't cost any extra to do it. Many countries charge extra for large passport books. It will ensure he won't run out of pages before passport expires. Even if he doesn't plan travelling too much, I can't see how having an option (which is free) is a bad thing.

Will do!  We have our passport application appointment this morning!  Thank you!

Wow -- glad that you made it to the ceremony under the wire!

Amidst the general happiness and relief, perhaps you'll also agree that it's uniquely satisfying to fill in that final box in your VJ timeline.  :)

It really is!  It's just a relief to be done.  Funny enough, my cousin will be embarking on the same journey starting next week when he marries his Thai fiancé.  We've promised to help with their CR1 application. :)

VisaJourney has been so wonderful.  We couldn't have gotten through the 6 years without it.  The collective knowledge and resources were tremendously helpful in our case. A big THANK YOU to everyone who contributes!!!!

Our ROC story so far...
1/3/2022: I-751 sent via USPS Priority Mail; delivered to Phoenix Lockbox 1/5
1/6/2022: CC processed for filing and biometric fees
1/7/2022: Received receipt # via text
1/15/2022:  Received NOA and 24-month extension letter
1/22/2022:  Received biometrics appointment letter
2/8/2022:  Biometrics appointment
10/2/2023:  SURPRISE!  We received the I-751 approval letter and 10-year green card without an interview.

I wanted to update you all. I successfully passed my N-400 interview and was very surprised to have the same day oath ceremony! I got my naturalization certificate and I'm very happy to be out of the process - finally! I took an attorney with me but they did not need to do anything. The officer was great. She went over every single question on N-400 and was very detail oriented. I was very worried but her demeanor really helped calm my nerves so was very grateful. She did not ask for a single document other than the GC and Driver's license. I had a ton of documents prepped but they were not needed. I already applied for the US passport and registered to vote. I was disappointed that the USPS acceptance agent decided to staple my Naturalization certificate :( Once I have it back, it is going in a fireproof safe :) Best of luck to everyone who is still awaiting your interviews.

What time was your interview?

Posted

Hi, my wife and I applied around the same time. I got naturalized a few weeks ago but my wife is yet to receiver her interview date.

When submitting her N400 application, she specified "No" for "other names used since birth" (part 2, question 2).

Even though she never used a different name earlier, her name was split differently on different occasions.

Is it possible that the delay might be due to this?

Is it worthwhile to submit an addendum with these details thru USCIS (unsolicited documents)?

Name on Passport (non-US passport):

Surname: [Blank]

Given Name: X Y

Name on Green card (issued in 2020):

Surname: Y

Given Name: X

Name on L2A Visa (issued in 2018):

Surname: Y

Given Name: X

Name on B1/B2 Visa (issued in 2009):

Surname: X Y

Given Name: FNU

She should bring errata sheet to interview listing all other names or ways to spell her name. Let officer know she needs to amend answers.

This is unlikely causing delays

My oath ceremony is tomorrow morning and I feel nervous but ready. Any tips from the ones that are already done with that part??

Also, do you update social security or apply for passport first after naturalization?

Note that I will have my name changed at the ceremony.

There is nothing to be nervous for oath. It is a simple ceremony, with hardly anything which can be of a surprise.

Regarding proof of citizen, this is what it says - "In general, you must provide your U.S. birth certificate or  U.S. passport. Other documents you may provide are a Consular Report of Birth, Certificate of Citizenship, or Certificate of Naturalization". So, you can go ahead with social security. Note that you will have to wait for a few days to get the info sync with SSA.

There is nothing to be worried about. All the hard things are behind. Oath ceremony is more like a celebration of you becoming US citizen.

I applied for US passport first and then updated status with SSA.

Hi, we (my wife, my son, and I) submitted our N400 application around the same time in April. I completed my interview in September and also the oath a couple of weeks after my interview.

But neither my wife nor son have received even the interview notice so far. Is this within the normal?
