What's this on the news about requiring supporting evidence of good moral character instead of just lack of a record?

My interview is Monday. Should I be concerned this applies to me?

Yes, the new memo was released on August 19. It does apply to current cases, even if filed before August 19.

It is yet to be clear how the officers will be adjudicating this. My interview is in about 6 weeks, and I intend to take some additional evidence with me taking cue of what they are looking for from the memo. For example - evidence of gainful employment, advancing education, care-giving of family members etc. I will take it with me, but won't produce it unless asked.

Trying to think of what I can even include last minute like that. I've been busy having my kids for the past 7 years and not working to care for them and currently pregnant. Unsure what to take.

In my opinion, (with the limited information we have as of now), the existence of the kids and your pregnancy is a big proof of your care-giving role, which according to the memo counts towards Good Moral Character (GMC). Carry their birth certificates if you aren't already. Your doctor visits for the pregnancy. Perhaps some evidence of children's doctor's visits, parent-teacher meetings, birthday parties you organised etc. It is kind of self-evident, but anything you can think of that emphasises how you have been a good parent. If you are married, and stay-at-home, you are probably taking care of your spouse too. Think of evidence you can take for that. Perhaps texts showing how you plan meals, taking care of them when they are ill etc. You might also be extending care to in-laws or even friends. They are also looking for community involvement and assimilation, so if you have a friend's circle that you meet regularly you can include that. Maybe you gifted money to friend's who had a baby or contributed to a go-fund-me for some friend's surgery.

I would take some time over the weekend to think about all that, and list them down, even if there is no evidence, so you can speak to it if required.

I have an affidavit from my mother-in-law that I included in my original submission, and it mostly outlined how she has witnessed my husband and I having a genuine, loving marriage, but it also described how I have been involved in the family, attending events, helping out, and taking care of her when she was sick, and had surgery. Perhaps you can think of some people in your life that could write such affidavits for you, even if there is no time to get it notarised? I'm sorry this is so last-minute for you, with the memo coming days before your interview. In all probability it won't even come up in the interview as I imagine it will take some time to figure out how to interview for this. But just do the best you can to get some pointers ready in your mind for why you would qualify as someone with GMC.

I had my interview today and everything went smoothly. The energy was relaxed and laid back which I appreciated.

My case was recommended for approval!

I had to wait almost an hour past my appointment time but once in, it was fast.

They didn't ask for evidence of good moral character but I had some things ready with me just in case.

They only asked for ID, green card, passport, interview letter and kids birth certificates.

Now I wait for the oath ceremony letter.

Again, congratulations 🎉🎊 I did mine online and as of today it’s still in NBC. It’s not even in my local office yet and Idk when they are going to review it again. 🥲

I finally received my interview notice. I am a bit anxious considering all the recent memos. I was curious if I could hire an attorney to accompany me to the interview. Do I need to file some paperwork with USCIS notifying them of this? Will it delay my interview?

You don’t. Your attorney will ask you to sign g-28 so they can represent you at the interview. Good luck

Hi all, anyone experienced a similar situation as me? My progress tab changed from 2 months to 6 months yesterday after waiting for 4.5 months. Today, it’s changed to 3 months. So frustrating!

It doesn't represent anything at all.

Some people still have 3 months posted after the interview and the oath ceremony.
