I can't speak to AOS as I haven't been through that process, but for my immigrant visa it was incredibly transparent. Every single bit of the process is laid out step by step on the website, with detailed instructions and guides, and each processing time is regularly updated i.e. the NVC stage, the USCIS stage, etc. I honestly never felt that I needed to ask anybody anything, and that included our lawyers, as I knew what was coming up at each stage and what they'd need of us ahead of time.

But perhaps the AOS process is very different, in which case they should bring it in line with other routes, to make it clear to all.

Glad to here you had an easy visa experience. My wife's K1  visa was pretty easy to track and predict as well. Wonderful experience. However, I have a friend who is waiting for a K1 visa.... The first USCIS step for my wife took less than 2 months. Meanwhile, my friend has been waiting over 8 months just for the first step. K1 wait times have doubled, possibly tripled or quadrupled, going into 2025. They are left in a similar situation to us. Waiting and waiting and waiting with no updates or anyway to reach out.

People are right here. There is no easy solution. Pretty much every solution will cost money. I am not an expert, and I am not the one to develop solutions. Unfortunately, with the current climate, I don't think anything will change for the better with USCIS.

In Fiscal Year 2024 the average for all I-129f's was 8.4 months, I think your case must have been an outlier. Interestingly, the average for I-129's was 2.2 months due to the aforementioned Premium Processing - as I said above, I think it's crazy that that's an option for employment based only!

Your friends can see the current published processing time - they're still within that so would have no reason to expect an update or need to reach out unless they go sailing past that (hopefully they'll have a decision before that though!). Good luck to them.

Agreed.

Timelines have varied significantly I can certainly remember when they were a lot longer.

Premium Processing just shows they can be done quicker, not that this is not obvious.

Total or just the first part? That makes more sense. They are taking over a year now.

Absolutely. When I was doing research, people said K1 wait times used to be measured in years.

Just the first part, NOA1 (9/18/2023) to NOA2 (06/04/2024). The rest of it went astonishingly fast and we got the NVC stage / medical / interview / issuance of visa / CFO all done within 2 and a half months and she arrived in the US on 08/30/2024. We got lucky and were able to scoop up an interview appointment that I think someone canceled.
