Hi everyone, I had a question regarding after the visa is approved. My question was what would I need to submit with my AOS. My fiancé and I are muslim so will we need to submit a religious marriage certificate (Nikkah) or do we just submit regular court marriage papers. Thanks for the help.

Legal marriage certificate issued by the state.

Depending on your state, a religious ceremony is considered a legal marriage ceremony which will produce a legal marriage certificate. That’s how it was for us in NY. The imam sent the paperwork to the county after the ceremony and the county issued a marriage certificate.

The certificate you provide should be a certified (embossed stamp) copy from the court naming the county / state.

If you don't have this, you would need to go to your county clerk's office and get a new copy, usually for a small fee.

This is what you provide.
