Do I need to report 12 year old speeding ticket on N400

Hi Experts - I got couple of speeding tickets over 15 years ago (in California). No tickets after that. Do I need to disclose those super old tickets to my N400 application? What if I forgot to say "YES" to that question (which I did). Is that OK? If not, How can correct this mistake? I dont even have those old tickets or information on those with me anymore. Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks.

I would try to get the citations if possible, but it should not be an issue.  The IO will go over the N400 form with you when you have your interview and you can disclose them then (USCIS may already know about them from their background check).  My wife forgot to disclose a moving violation she was cited for when she filled out her N400, and she was able to correct it at the interview, it was not an issue.

Good Luck!

Completely agree with Dashinka to update during the interview.

I applied in 2020 having had a speeding ticket from 2003. 17 years, 2 countries, and 2 kids later I didn't have any information on the ticket nor proof that I had paid. However I knew which county I was cited. Google, being my friend, found 5 county court houses in that county and so I emailed each clerk with my drivers license number and the year of citation. All of them got back to me within a week and one of them emailed details of the ticket and proof that I had paid.

Was it too much? I don't know, maybe but the IO was impressed with the effort put in (it isn't much effort to use google). I just didn't want the IO having enough doubts on my application to delay my N400 approval on the basis of me having to prove that the citation was paid.

Thanks a lot to both of you. This really helps. I've already emailed the courts and got information about one of the tickets (which was from Dec, 2005). Waiting for other ticket info. Couple of follow-up questions though:

1. When should I bring this mistake during the interview?

2. Shall I upload some sort of letter/word doc (and the citation evidences from court) online to my uscis case portal, so that they know about this mistake upfront and the evidences of closure?

Thanks again.

The officer will specifically ask if there is anything to be updated on your application - that point would be your opportunity. If I remember rightly, they also go through each question once more to ensure what you’ve answered is still applicable.

There is no harm in uploading the documents to your portal. The officer may or may not see any updates prior to your interview.
