Building Credit Without SSN?

A lot of credit cards let you issue cards for authorized users without the SSN. If one does this and the authorized user in the future ( say in a year or two) immigrates to the US, obtains SSN, links SSN to the existing cards will then their credit report go back retroactively?

How long does it take to get a credit score after getting SSN?

 

It may take 3-6 months of reported activity to generate a credit score for a new resident. Individuals who receive a Social Security Number may request to have their credit history transferred to their SSN by contacting each credit bureau.

Yes.  The existing history will update with the social security number whenever a creditor reports the information in the future.  My wife even had one where she was an authorized user 6 years earlier and I had closed the account 4 years before she got here and she was even using a different surname. Somehow the credit report agencies still put two and two together and correctly attached the old closed account to her credit report.

 

She arrived with a 760ish FICO score.

That is awesome to hear. I am in a similar situation where my relative has been an authorized user for a while and if they decide to immigrate it will help them. Thanks for sharing!
