I believe you guys are referring to "john and rie".

The reason their timeline seems so quick is because they entered the incorrect date for their NOA1. They put in their latest NOA1 NOTICE date, instead of their original RECEIVED date.

I-129F Sent : 2007-04-17

Comments : Our paperwork was received at Texas SC on April 24th but forwarded to California SC. Then now, my fiance received replacement NOA#1 after 3months...

Perhaps, I should stop listing NOA1 date, and start using the date the packet was sent instead. What are your thoughts?

I think leave it, bszoom... there surely won't be many aberrations like that, so generally it will be accurate :)

shame though... I had a moment of wild hope... ;)

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

This confuses me. Isn't the NOA1 date on the timeline is supposed to be the date the the NOA1 was issued and isn't the notice date on the NOA1 the issued date? What received date are you referring to? The received date on my NOA1 is the day the package arrived at VSC. 11 days later they issued me the NOA1 notice.

Perhaps, I should stop listing NOA1 date, and start using the date the packet was sent instead. What are your thoughts?

No, I think it is best to continue using the NOA1 issue date. People send their packages via different methods and some may be sent from overseas with very long transit times. To keep things as consistent as possible, I think using the NOA1 date as the starting date is best. It is also consistent with how VJ shows the processing time when one does a timeline search.

With the I-797C (NOA1) and I-797 (NOA2) there are a bunch of dates that makes it confusing.

NOTICE DATE is the date the physical paper (I-797 or I-797C) was printed, and is basically irrelevant to your Visa Process.

On the I-797C (NOA1), the RECEIVED DATE is the date your petition is prioritized by. That is the date that should be entered in the VisaJourney.com timeline. The NOTICE DATE is simply the date your I-797C was printed.

On the I-797 (NOA2), the date that is important is the first date listed in the date range of the petition Validity. For example, "Valid from 07/09/2007 to 11/09/2007" means that 07/09/2007 is the NOA2 date. That is the date that should be entered in the VisaJourney.com timeline. The RECEIPT DATE is simply the date your most recent I-797C (NOA1) was printed; and the NOTICE DATE is simply the date your most recent I-797 (NOA2) was printed.

Here's a picture of my I-797C (NOA1). I have circled the RECEIVED DATE in red.

Here's a picture of my I-797 (NOA2). I have circled the VALID FROM date in red.

My 2 cents here. i think it should be the NOTICE date listed on the 797C as the NOA1 date. not any dates after it or the received date before it. just because you mailed it to them, and the tracking says they received and signed for it, doesn't mean the service center has acknowledged it. that date has no bearing. once they officially give you notice they have it, then i think their own 6 month processing clock starts. any notices after it don't count for me until NOA2. thats my feeling on it and how i posted my dates in the time line.

my mailed date, 7/17/07 meaningless to me

received date 7/18/07 meaningless to me

NOA1 notice date 07/23/07 now i have something

received NOA1 in mail 07/25/07 meaningless

just my 2 cents and the way i look at it.

So i should change my time line to say NOA1 07/18/07 ????

I disagree. My prior posts about this in other threads have detailed that USCIS uses the RECEIVED date to prioritize your petition. The NOA1 with a RECEIVED DATE is evidence that the Service Center has acknowledged the receival of your petition on that date. In fact, thats what the I-797C says, if you read the entire notice. USCIS has confirmed that this is the date you can use for escallation if they have not contacted you within the timeframe they prescribe.

NOTICE date is simply the date the notice is printed. If you get a reprint, the notice date will change.

Another interesting thing is some people with reprints don't have the date set in RECEIVED DATE, but they have it set in PRIORITY DATE. I believe that depends on what point in the process the reprint is issued. But in general PRIORITY DATE is unused, for that field is most commonly used when you are waiting an avialable Visa Number.

Yes, 7/18/07 was your NOA1 date.

And just to be clear - I am NOT talking about the date your package was received by however shipping method you sent it. I am specifically refering to the I-797C (NOA1) field called "RECEIVED DATE" which I have circled in my picture above.

OK, sorry for posting twice in a row... When I look in the received field on the NOA1 hardcopy that bszoom mentions, the date is 6/08/07. But, when I look at the case status online, the first sentence is

"On June 15, 2007, we received this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E), and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case."

So is my NOA1 date still 6/08/07?

Thanks for your help.
