I haven't had it done but was looking into it from a place in Toronto before (in Yorkville). From what my friends have told me:

- it does hurt a bit

- number of sessions depends on if they got all the hair in the area

- is sensitive after treatment

As far as where to go, make sure you check out a place that has a lot of experience with people with darker skin. It was previously advised before that people with darker skin could not get laser hair removal but I think it's no longer true. However you'll DEFINITELY want to make sure they've had lots of (happy) clients in there before who have darker skin.

The quote I got from the place in Yorkville was going to be $1,000 for everything below the waist and my underarms. However, I don't have a lot of hair. And now I totally can't remember the name of the place except it was in Hazelton Lanes.

bold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have darker skin, there are very few types of lasers that will work...even then it's pretty chancy. Lasers work by going after the pigmentation found in the hair follicle. The problem is that the laser can not tell the difference between the pigment in your follicle and the pigment in your skin if you are darker. Lasers are also not able to be called permanent hair removal devices because what might work for one, may do nothing for the other. You need to have approximately 6 treatments spaced over months to get all the hair follicles in their growth stage. You can't kill a follicle when it's dormant.

Take a look at this companies website: http://www.questpharmatech.com/ They are a Canadian company that will be finishing a second round of clinical trials for a possible permanent solution to hair removal.

cool.. how'd you know I was of *darker skin*?? B)

I'm looking into bikini & underarm

$1000???@#$ .......... does that also include legs??

holy moly

'Cause you said what your ethnicity was in another thread! :D

Nope the $1,000 didn't include legs. But we're talking Yorkville so I wouldn't be surprised if they overcharge! I never did get it done because I had to save up money for moving here! :)

If I knew it was work I'd totally do it. I'd love to not ever having to wax again.

If you think about it, I spend 65 a month, in less than 1 year and 4 months I've spent 1000. So it would never grow ever again, it's totally worthy.

Hey,

See the tons of questions?

:help:

I have done this in Brazil and it's worthy …..every penny.... yes...there are some considerations about hair color... if you have blond hair it will take much longer...dark hair is a way faster... I did almost my entire body (entire legs, under arm and very deep bikini) I have a light skin and dark hair in a great quantity....and I was tired of waxing all the time. Results vary from person to person, but you can see /feel it since the first time....also the hair grows slowly until it stop growing permanently. It hurts a little, but I prefer to feel this kind of pain 1000 times than the hurt of wax. You are required to use an ointment to make your skin numb about 1 hour (sometimes 30 minutes) before the procedure…. The only requirement for me was not cast a tan during the treatment. Easy….I did only 4 treatments…and then I came here…couldn’t finish it yet….but the areas that the treatment reached 100% of results, the hair never grew again …and it has c  ompleted 1 year since I started the treatment…and I have a hormonal problem that usually makes the hair grows beyond normal… So my advice is: Go for it !!

If you have blonde hair, don't even waste your money because it's not going to work. Best advice if you are going to try this route is to go to a number of practitioners to see what they have to say. Try to stay away from those "spa" type places that are guaranteeing 100% permanence because they are a fraud. No one can guarantee that.

Be careful with that cream you can place on your skin to numb the area too. A least one individual died recently from using it on too large of an area.

Here in Mexico it's very cheap so I went recently to investigate one of the well known, pervasive "clinics". They were very knowledgable and friendly but told me they would not advise it for me because my hair is too light and it wouldn't be very effective. When I said I wanted to try it anyway, they said the hair would grow back thicker and pretty much refused to accept me as a client. Too bad because it's SOOO cheap compared to the US. Anyway here's the US site - I believe they are only in CA right now and TX right now. http://www.neoskin.com/inv/us/us.html
