How Long After Your K1 Fiancee's Visa Can You Move?

Hi All,

 

After your fiancee receives their visa, but prior to them setting foot on U.S. soil, is there any limitation on when you, yourself, can move?

 

Like, should you wait until they come to the States before moving, or can you just move to a new place before they come and update where you've moved later on?

No limitations on the movement of the USC, but your fiancé will need to update their address after they arrive.

Sorry, can you clarify what you mean by USC?

 

Like, basically, could you (as the sponsor) have put one address on the K1/Visa app, move to an apartment afterward, then provide the new apartment's address/lease documents, etc. to the port of entry folks and to the online AR-11 USCIS address change and have your Fiancee/Beneficiary be ok?

USC is US citizen.  Yes to your second question.  Just make sure that you confirm the address change with CBP at arrival in the US and also with USCIS, to make sure that all documents/notices go to the new address.  Call USCIS to confirm that they have updated the address in their system, as they are known to mess up address changes.

Ok, thanks so much. Sorry to keep asking the same question--I'm just paranoid -- so my fiancee won't be penalized for that post-visa receipt address change, right? We just have to make sure that CBP/USCIS have the most up-to-date information, correct, upon entry, and going forward?

Correct.  If you move before your fiancé enters the US and CBP asks where they will be staying your fiancé can update the address with CBP.  Then your fiancé should also file the AR-11 with the new address to inform USCIS (don’t rely on CBP doing that notification).

Sorry, last annoying question -- when you have to give the CBP, USCIS, et. al your updated address at which your Beneficiary/Fiancee will be staying, do you also have to give any kind of proof of lease/utilities for the address at which you were previously staying? (The one that you'll be leaving?)
