Hey everyone!

Has anyone used a U-Box from UHaul to move your stuff? Just wondering on the experience anyone has had and if there is any insurance requirements or what is necessary for them to deliver it from Canada to US.

Thanks so much!

Hi,
I just moved from Ontario to California and used U-Box.  It was pretty easy - they provide all the forms you need, and you can always contact them if you have any questions or concerns.  I had no issues with the process or the customer service.  I think I paid for some basic insurance but it was optional.
Good luck!

Amazing!! Thank you so much! Was your online quote the same as your actual amount? And all your stuff showed up in tact? I'll likely go talk to UHaul today after work

Yes, online quote was the what I paid.  I'm still unpacking, but so far so good!

QQ for you!! Did you have to make a fully itemized list of everything in your Ubox?? God. That would take forever if so!

I did but it was very general.  They told me there was no need to be super specific.
For example, I had-  Box 1:  winter clothes, dresses.  Box 2: books, notebooks, photo albums.  Anything unusual I would mention specifically - like: mask and snorkel, ukulele, mini trampoline.
I made a rough list while I was packing and then typed it up. It didn't take much extra time really.  It was also very helpful for unpacking as I had a list of where things generally were.

Oh great! I was not looking forward to making a full itemized list. I have WAY too many Christmas decorations I would have to go through lol. Thanks!!

@Icecreamcastles Sorry to bother you - I'm just starting to fill out the 3299 form and I'm wondering what you wrote for "Residency Status Upon Arrival". Did you select Non-Resident > Emigrating to the US or did you select "Returning US resident" as technically your visa grants you permanent resident status.

This whole form is tripping me up lol

For first time entry using your visa it is “ emigrating to US”. You do not become an LPR until you enter the US. The visa is your permission to request entry .. It in itself does not confer  lpr status

Yes. But I'm entering the US before my items as per requirement through the border. I'll be flying ahead of my things shipping. So technically, when it crosses, I'll be a permanent resident. That's where I'm tripping up.

If i recall , for our first load , we put immigrating… as we had only made the first entry .. But for a second load at a later date we put returning resident

My case is different since I entered on a K-1 visa and it does not grant me permanent resident status.  I think either way you're a Non-Resident on your first entry.

Just a little update here for anyone interested in U-Box. I was able to move with U-Box and had a pretty good experience.

I had them deliver and pick up the U-Box from my Canadian residence at my own schedule, for the most part. I was in a smaller city so the requested date of arrival fell within a couple of days of the original request. Not bad at all. I'm sure if you are in a larger city, they can accommodate on the exact day you like

I was told it would be arriving in Florida from Ontario by October 14 and it was picked up in Canada on September 23. It arrived October 3rd! Pleasant surprise!!

It cost about $2500 CDN all in and was worth it. The U-box fits a LOT of stuff. If you're moving a 1 bdrm apartment or less I'd say you can get away with one. But again, that's relative to your square footage.

They will send you the customs form for you to fill out as well as an inventory list. I didn't have to do fully itemized, but I did a list like: Box 1 - Christmas Decorations, Box 2 - Office Items. If you have questions about the customs form or how to do your inventory, they have a specific email address they will provide to you with questions and they got back to me within 12 hours so it was pretty convenient.
