  1. "Police certificates expire after two years, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued." https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-5-collect-financial-evidence-and-other-supporting-documents/step-7-collect-civil-documents.html
  2. Yes - only necessary if the beneficiary is currently in the US.
  3. We contacted both my fiance's senators and his congressperson while we were dealing with the DS-5535 process. There wasn't much they could do, but it did make us feel like we were at least trying every option. I'm not sure it will help in your case, but you're so close that a little nudge might be good. I hope you get positive movement soon!
  4. It's not a problem. I was visiting my fiance when I got my approval and stayed in the US until I booked my medical and interview. I already had all the paperwork (including police clearances, vaccine records, birth certificate) ready.
  5. My case is different since I entered on a K-1 visa and it does not grant me permanent resident status. I think either way you're a Non-Resident on your first entry.

  7. Hello fellow filers! I thought I'd add my timeline so far. It's so nice to see movement on our cases and EAD approvals. Fingers crossed for GC (though I'll take AP) before Christmas. 8. Hi, this happened to us as well. We received our first NOA2 on May 7, 2022 and then another one May 12, 2022. We never figured out why, and I'm not sure it slowed anything down. I submitted the second NOA2 with my AOS package because that is the date that shows when I checked my case status online. Good luck with the process!
  9. I did but it was very general. They told me there was no need to be super specific. For example, I had- Box 1: winter clothes, dresses. Box 2: books, notebooks, photo albums. Anything unusual I would mention specifically - like: mask and snorkel, ukulele, mini trampoline. I made a rough list while I was packing and then typed it up. It didn't take much extra time really. It was also very helpful for unpacking as I had a list of where things generally were.
  10. Yes, online quote was the what I paid. I'm still unpacking, but so far so good!
  11. Hi, I just moved from Ontario to California and used U-Box. It was pretty easy - they provide all the forms you need, and you can always contact them if you have any questions or concerns. I had no issues with the process or the customer service. I think I paid for some basic insurance but it was optional. Good luck!
  12. I'd say you are very close to the end! I think it's fine to wait until August to book your appointment. The only obstacle I can see is if your police certificate expires around that time, but they are good for 2 years. Here's my DS-5535 timeline for reference: Oct 4, 2022 Interview for K-1 Fiance Visa - Consulate assured me I was approved and kept my passport. Oct 5, 2022 DS-5535 email received. CEAC Status 'Refused'. DS-5535 completed and sent Oct 7, 2022. Nov 2022 Requested passport back from consulate for holiday travel and renewal. Mar 21, 2023 Consulate email request for new medical and passport. (No WOM filed.) Apr 17, 2023 Consulate received medical and passport. Apr 19, 2023 CEAC Status 'Approved' ! Apr 25, 2023 CEAC Status 'Issued' !! Purolator link email received. April 27, 2023 Visa in hand !!!
  13. I renewed my passport while waiting for the DS5535 to process. When they requested my passport back I sent both my old passport and the new one with a cover letter explaining that I had renewed my passport and had a new number. It didn't seem to be a problem and they issued the K1 visa in my new passport and returned both passports to me.
  14. I can relate to the frustrations of communicating with the embassy but it can't hurt to have a paper trail of your attempt to inform them. Fingers crossed you will see the end of the AP soon. It is a rough state of limbo for sure!
  15. I don't know how much things differ between embassies. I was placed in AP after my interview in Montreal, Canada. I renewed while waiting for the AP to process. When they requested my passport back I sent both my old passport and the new one with a cover letter explaining that I had renewed my passport and had a new number. It didn't seem to be a problem and they issued the K1 visa in my new passport. I still think it's a good idea to email and let them know of the change in number just to keep them informed.
  16. The wait seems to be around 5 months on average.
  17. I believe it's a generic list. I did bring a copy of my petitioner's birth certificate (just in case) but was not asked for it at my interview. I haven't heard of anyone needing it.
  18. I think you could just email the P3 again with a short note that you missed checking that off. It's possible that you're fine to just bring it to your interview though, especially if you've already received your P4.
  19. There's seems to be no rhyme or reason to this process and I can't believe 7 months from interview to visa makes me one of the lucky ones. Here's my DS-5535 timeline: Oct 4, 2022 Interview for K-1 Fiance Visa - Consulate assured me I was approved and kept my passport. Oct 5, 2022 DS-5535 email received. CEAC Status 'Refused'. DS-5535 completed and sent Oct 7, 2022. Nov 2022 Requested passport back from consulate for holiday travel and renewal. Mar 21, 2023 Consulate email request for new medical and passport. (No WOM filed.) Apr 17, 2023 Consulate received medical and passport. Apr 19, 2023 CEAC Status 'Approved' ! Apr 25, 2023 CEAC Status 'Issued' !! Purolator link email received. April 27, 2023 Visa in hand !!! Wishing everyone speedy approvals - this group has given me great info and a much needed sense of support. 🙂
  20. So sorry you've joined the club. Most of us have had no issues visiting the US. I always had proof of ties to Canada and a return ticket and never had a problem. It can take a couple of days to receive the DS-5535 questions. Check your junk mail, too. If you don't get it today then I would send them an email about it.
  21. It's exactly 6 months since my interview and the consulate has requested a new medical and my passport! I won't really believe it until I have my visa in hand. I hope this means DS-5535 cases will be processed more quickly and the yearlong waits are over. (No WOM filed.)
