Name change trough adjustment of status?

Hey,

we’re doing adjustment of status and I was wondering how the name change works trough the marriage and filing the forms. From what I read online if I wanted my name changed to my husbands with the adjustment process i would just have to put his last name as mine on all the forms and then put my maiden name as previously used names in the field when asked too. Is that correct? Even if it says on form I-485 „current legal last name“ ?

After our wedding I haven’t gone trough a legal name change process in my home country so technically my legal name is still my maiden name. That’s why I’m confused and unsure.

Just want to confirm with this! I know, a lot of questions and I probably have more to come ! 🙈🙈 thanks in advance

Your marriage certificate is a legal name change document in most states in the US.  For immigration purposes, you can use any combination (with or without hyphens)  of the names on your marriage certificate.

Example:  Jane Doe marries John Smith

You can use Jane Doe, Jane Smith, Jane Doe Smith, Jane Doe-Smith

Just fill in your immigration forms with your new legal name.

Yes

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

Oh and probably a stupid question but I’ll ask anyways. This process does not apply to my child in terms of name change, right? I was wondering how the name change works for my child but that’s probably a different process since he’s just the child. Maybe someone here knows that too
