Medical - London (Mental Health)

Hi,

I finally have my medical booked in London. As part of this one if the items needed is "Summary of medical history from GP (NOT full medical records) and reports covering any medical conditions, disabilities, and prior serious illnesses you have been treated for or anything ongoing. This is a new requirement and may not yet be added to the checklist online or the US EMBASSY LONDON website."

And

If you have any significant/ongoing/previous medical conditions (i.e depression/diabetes/hypertension etc) please ensure that you bring a reportfrom your GP/Specialist/Consultant regarding this; including, medication, prognosis, management etc. (this includes conditions such as depression, anxiety, diabetes and hypertension).

My question is this... how 'brief' does this need to be?

I got two documents from my GP yesterday, one is extremely brief... 'May 2021 - Anxiety/Depression' and the meds I had etc. And ones goes in to detail about what was discussed between myself and the GP (that's very personal info).

Is the first letter OK? The extremely brief one with just dates/reason? I am not on any medication right now, never been hospitalised with mental health etc, just struggled now and then, like many of us.

Thank you

For this I just asked my GP to print my patient summary.

And also print a list of all my previous vaccines on file.

I can't advice specifically on any mental health issues.

Do you know if you can get a letter from the GP that is somewhat in the middle (between too little information and too much information)?

The GP can write a letter (if it is sealed without you looking at it, even better) where they state your medications, what you were treated for in a summarized way to give them an idea of what it was but not all those personal details (ideally more from a medical/clinical perspective and not the personal details of WHAT what discussed), AND (I would say this is important) your current status - whether or not he/she believes that you are a threat to yourself and others.

Now, do keep in mind that it will also be based on what the GP is comfortable writing and doing - since they probably do not want to risk their license.  Additionally, you do not want to seem like you misrepresented something in your documentation.  Lastly, I understand that some of it might be too personal, but that is part of immigration.  We all feel a bit more "naked" than we want, but it is part of the process and being honest.

I was trying to find the post I had where my husband had to go through this in Argentina, but I was not successful in finding it.

Please fill out your timeline so we can better assist you.
