Employer name changed but W2 shows old name

Hi guys,

 

I couldn’t find a answer for this anywhere so I thought I’ll ask here so it can benefit me and anyone else who will have the same question.

 

For privacy, I’ll use Facebook as example.

 

So my employer used to be known as FACEBOOK INC, but since last year they changed their name to META.

The problem is the W2s still mention them as FACEBOOK but the Proof of Employment letter and Pay Stubs mentions META, the new company name...

 

When uploading the document to CEAC, I’ve put comments to explain that.

However in the form I-864, where it asks for my employer name, should I put “FACEBOOK” or “META”, or even “META formerly FACEBOOK” ?

 

I’m torn here…

META AKA FACEBOOK

 

Don't overthink it, it is the same company.  My employer did not even change name, and I have documents showing their name in so many different ways 😕

My wife's employer which is listed on her W2 was some sort of holding company or something that neither of us has ever even heard of.   It certainly isn't anything like the name of the business she actually works for and not what she would put down as her employer anywhere it was asked.  I think that is a very normal tax situation and of little concern.

Question about employer name is in the present tense.  I'm pretty sure ANY Consular Officer will recognize that META, is Facebook anyway.  This is a non-issue.  Just answer each question in its proper tense.
