translating documents

Hi there,

Can anyone tell me if the Embassy in Santo Domingo requires original documents (i.e. birth certificate and police report) to be translated into English? My fiance lives in Dominican Republic and of course his documents are in Spanish but I was wondering if they needed to be translated? I would think not but I just want to be sure. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

Not sure about your embassy specifically, but I would think so- as I've read that other embassies were requiring translations.

these documents will go into US immigration system and our main language is English 

 

USCIS says

 

Does USCIS require certified translation? If you are required to submit any document for your immigration case and the version you have is in non-English, it will require a certified translation along with the certificate from the translator stating that it is accurate, complete, and the translator was proficient.Jan 11, 2023

thank you everyone. I called the Embassy in Santo Domingo and they said since it was the original document from the country it did not need to be translated. I am hearing mixed things so I will get it translated anyway. Better safe than sorry.

Yes, they do not need to be translated. The previous post is for when you send documents to the NVC and they must be translated. They basically want to check the original documents that you sent to NVC (they ask for copies no originals). That's when you send Documents to NVC no embassies.
