NVC Registration Termination

Hello,

I am sponsoring an IR/CR-1.

I am wondering how the 1-year petition completion application rule is enforced at NVC. My case was received by NVC on February 20th, 2022 and I received an email from them on March 15th, 2022 with the bill to pay. I paid the two fees the same day. I have not formally submitted any document since then due to various circumstances. But, I have been logging onto CEAC and was working on the DS-260 recently.

Does this mean that the petition will expire on March 15th 2023, since that is a year since I made my account? Or does the 1-year timer restart every time I login to CEAC. Or do I have to submit the DS-260 to restart the timer, or do I have to have all documents (DS-260, civil documents, AOS) submitted in CEAC?

Thanks for your help?

Resets.

You will get a warning email from the NVC when there is no activity for a year.

What do you mean it resets? In what scenario does it reset? That is what my question is. I am trying to avoid having it reset.

Also, I did some research earlier and it seems when they send you the one year reset they basically reset the fees paid and you have to start NVC from scratch. So I would really like to avoid that.

You want your petition to expire?

No, I want to apply for the visa before it expires and the visa fees are cancelled.

What exactly did you mean by “resets”?

I think we are misunderstanding what each other is saying.

To keep your case active, do not let more than one year pass without contacting NVC.  To do so, you can submit fees and/or documents through the Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC),  https://ceac.state.gov/ivEach time you access your case in CEAC, your contact date will be updated.  If one year passes from the last date of contact with NVC, all submitted fees, forms and documents will expire, and your case will begin the pre-termination process.

So my understanding is that whenever you login into your CEAC account the timer is reset.
