So I have 1485 that was reopened on January 22 of 2021 after I sent the medical exam that they requested from me but since then it hasn’t even been updated it still says case reopened. I have lawyer who wont tell me anything until I pay him off but should I be concerned about this situation could my green card be approved and he has it on him this lawyer and waiting for me pay him so he can give it to me I need some answers

1. Call USCIS and ask for the status, you can say “ info pass “ to get a live agent

2 Make an infopass appointment and go to field office in person ( review reasons valid for infopass )

3. Did attorney file an I-290 ( motion to re open/reconsider ?

4. File a FOIA ( online , it’s free) and get complete copy of your file/decision

5. Request a copy of your file from the attorney ( he cannot refuse , but will probably charge you $200 for copies)

6. Make a written offer of payments, if you can’t afford to settle his bill at once

If you think you were sent a green card then call USCIS, say “info pass”, and request a tier 2 officer call you regarding your case.

1. Keep calling, ask for an InfoPass so you can go in person and maybe get a straight answer

2. Call and ask for a Tier 2 Officer

3. Some valid reasons for getting an InfoPass appointment are : potential job loss if EAD is expiring , need for urgent travel ..

4. Google your Congressman and ask for help

5. FOIA response is anywhere between a few weeks to months

Did your attorney file an I-290 B ? Do you have a filing receipt notice for it?

You’ve been an LPR for a year and didn’t even know it. That card they produced was indeed your green card. Attorney kept it…not ethical but he will deny receiving the card if cornered by a Bar Complaint.

I find it odd that you did not also receive the a copy of the I-485 Approval Notice ..did you move or are you VAWA…?

Simply do an I-90 , use lost card as a reason , and pay the fee. You cannot claim “ never received “ card because card was delivered to attorney and does not show returned by post office to USCIS.

In the meantime, call and make an InfoPass, go get a stamp in your passport to show you have status.and Congratulations!!!

My math is funky tonight because you have an LPR for 2 years now..without knowing. You can apply for citizenship on January of next year 2024 under the 3 yr rule if you adjusted through VAWA..but 5 years if adjustment was through U-Visa or asylum.

Post your category please.

Oh wow these are really great news I really didn’t know any of this stuff Was lost with this greedy lawyer who didn’t tell me now I gotta do my thing and get the card

thank you all for you responses
