Hi Everybody,

I swear I am going to get more active on these boards so if this has already been posted and I missed it sorry! I have a question...

Christophe and I are trying to decide if we should do the K1 visa now or should we wait til I get a perm job? I am currently interviewing for perm jobs and in between that, I am temping. Does anybody have any suggestions? Obviously, we just want to get this application form moving but want to make sure it is not bounced back to us a million times.

Thanks for any advice!

Do you make enough as a temp to satisfy the support requirements? You wont have to fill out the support forms until later, and if needed you can have a co-sponsor for the I-134 and you will hopefully be able to self sponsor with the 1-864.

Look at the process on immigration time lines.

For K1, filed in America (depending on where you file) it will take something near 100 days to get out through the Visa Service Center.

You wont need your I-864 (or which ever document they require) until the application goes to the embassy.

So, as long as you can get a job that meets the minumum requirement withing 100 days, you should file.

And as another poster said, you really don't need the form until your fiancee becomes your spouse, and you apply for their green card.

If'n I was you I'd file and get the clock started. The wait is already long, no use waiting even longer.

Like they said, you don't need to even present an affidavit of support until the petition gets to the embassy- that gives you at least three months of job hunting in most cases. Plus, I would seriously consider beating that deadline before the filing fees increase. $170 and $400 is a big difference- and if you don't have a permanent job at the moment the $170 might be a lot easier on your wallet if money is tight.

Go for it. You are interviewing now. Do you think you will have something fairly soon? You have about 3 or 4 months until you need to have the affidavit of support ready.

Now, or yesterday if possible. It's a petition, not an application form. Christophe will fill out an application form for a visa. You are petitioning for him to have that privilege.

i would say the sooner the better...$170 or $455 in 10 days or so? and like the others said, the income requirements wont come up for at least a few months yet so best to get the wait underway in the meantime then work on a job...or a joint sponsor
