Hi every one,

I like what I have read, a lot of good information out there. So to the point I am a US citizen and I'm heading back to Egypt soon to hopefully marry my soon to be wife. I was not able to see a counselor last time due to not being able to make an appointment, which by the way is a nightmare. This time I have an appointment. The reason if for I can get my Free To marry Certificate for the US embassy. I have been married before and I have brough my divorce papers and my certificate of Islam. Is there any reason or has any one ever had a issue getting this Free to marry cert? If you have gotten it or had issue you please let me know. Me and the Fiancé are all in knots over this because this is now me 2nd time out there and we don't want to be disappointed.

As far as I understood it, what you are applying for is an affidavit of marriageability and it shouldn't be hard to obtain.

My situation was different from yours because I had never been married when I obtained my affidavit of marriageability. All I did was swear that I was single and free to marry and the name of my fiancé. It was date and signed. Since you are divorced, they will write down in the affidavit that you were previously married but are now free to remarry.

It should be straightforward and I wish you the best of luck.

It is just a document you can type out and then fill in the blanks with a pen. For example “I, ____(your name)____, residing at ____(your address)____, appeared in person before the undersigned notary public and under oath make the following statements:”

Then list your birthday, birth country, citizenship, passport number, divorce date and state you are currently single and able to remarry.

Make sure it’s notarized and that should suffice.

Any advice about getting the appointment? There aren't any available to book right now and the embassy is very slow to respond to emails. My fiance found information online about booking an emergency appointment. Any ideas about that? Thanks!

Not sure if you are still having trouble but Try to check the website very early on Thursdays. My fiancé and I were checking everyday with no luck. We were told the website opens appointments usually every Thursday. So my fiancé was checking. He checked and nothing was available then 20 minutes later they made all the days of the month available. Also they make days available 2 months in advance. So if you are checking now in September it should be November and December opening

So I finally did it we are married. It was not easy make sure you read everything on how to marry  in this country. There is a lot of steeps and it will take you about 10 days to complete them all. if there is any questions please ask me it was one tough ride of stamps and you need alot of them.

yes it not only Thursdays but every other Thursday and they are running about two month behind, for a document that takes them about 5 min that you fill out your self it is a complete waste of time but you have to have it
