Hi all ,

We are planning to leave in few weeks ,can we schedule /walk-in SSN appointment on any location or it should be city /state where we want to deliver our SSN and GC ?

I don't  want to  delay as want to open bank acc  and it's required for work as well.

We are staying first week with in-laws and then going to my family in different state where I want to deliver my post .

Appreciate quick answer .

Seems safest, you may have to book an appointment

Finally we reached yesterday ,today went to nearest office for SSN number application but they said you need to wait for 4 weeks before applying .

Can anyone confirm that it's correct ?

I waited 10 days after entry to book my appointment. It took over 40 days for my card to arrive though. I was on a K1 visa which complicates everything because no one in any system knows how to deal with people in my position.

Anyway, 4 weeks is excessive. Most say wait 2 weeks but that wait time has been debunked a lot on this forum. Not sure why they’re telling you 4.

I have a question on the back of this!

We're planning to enter the US early July - we're thinking of going to the office for a SSN appointment 4-5 days after my entry. Is that too soon?

Or should we wait the 10 working days as some people mention here, which at that point we'll already be married?

I was juggling whole day and here is the lesson learned .

As in few categories ,where you fill ds-260  and you tick that my SSN should process  ,then DHS get your details at the port of entry for both green card and SSN card .

System takes 5 working days when DHS send request to SSA to generate SSN .

I spoke to SSA main office ,there is no official waiting time (7 days or 10 days or 4 weeks )  ,advisor just push you back to ensure there shouldn't be 2 request for SSN

So check your DS 260 ,if you requested SSN then you don't need to visit SSA office .wait for 2 weeks for your SSN and 90 days for your card .
