Renew Beneficiary's Passport now or later? Filing for K-3

I (US citizen) submitted a 1-130 to sponsor my husband from Canada in December 2021. Now, I’m going to file a K-3 visa application with the hope that it could get processed sooner than the marriage visa application. When filling out the K-3 visa application I then realized my husband’s passport expires later this year. We are wondering whether or not he should renew his passport since the immigration application has the current passport number which will likely expire before they process our application. If he renews it now will we be able to get it updated on our application? What are the pros and cons of renewing his passport now versus later? Thanks in advance for feedback and insights!

K3's are essentially dead and Montreal has done a very good job of clearing IR/CR1 backlog.  If you're curious, take a peek at the spreadsheet in my signature.  The unfortunate reality is immigration takes time.  The good fortune for you is if your husband has strong ties to Canada, he can visit while his visa is processing.  Many other couples aren't offered this good fortune.

Regardless, renew the passport.  It's cheaper and less of a pain in the rear getting it done in Canada since Passport Canada has stupid requirements for photos.  He'll need it to travel in future anyway and it's good for 10 years that way.

Just put the passport number down. When you get to NVC and complete the DS-260 he can go get a new passport. Or have new passport before interview.
So just proceed because passport really is not a requirement at USCIS.

beneficiaries have renewed their passports after submitting DS260.

K3 might not do anything... so it really doesn't matter what passport number you use when you file that form (and I'm a proponent of not filing at all because I believe it slows down approval for everyone).

Have your husband renew his passport ASAP and remember the passport he takes to the interview is the passport that matters.

He has to give his passport details again when he fills out the DS160 (for K3 that won't happen) or DS260 for I30 ... and many people have different details from I-130/I-129F filing...
