  1. Hi! We will try that this time. Appreciate you taking the time to share your experience as well. Thank you, Sukie!
  2. Hello, Our marriage certificate was rejected two times by the NVC. The marriage certificate we have been submitting is the large/long form certificate of our marriage (August 14, 2021) from Nova Scotia's Vital Statistics Office. The NVC replied back with "Please replace this with an acceptable marriage certificate from a correct issuing authority. Please use our Document Finder at https://nvc.state.gov/find for acceptable documents guidelines." My husband and I both triple checked the website. The Nova Scotia Vital Statistics Office is considered the "correct issuing authority" on the website. My husband spoke with Nova Scotia's Vital Statistics office and head office this month to verify our marriage certificate as a valid civil document. They confirmed that it is the right provincial marriage certificate. We've had this "large" form of our marriage certificate since 2021. We're wondering why it's being rejected when it's the right marriage certificate from the correct issuing authority. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Any insights or advice on how to proceed are greatly appreciated!
  3. Hi, Our I-130 petition was recently approved on 4/18/23 and we got our welcome letter from the NVC on 4/25/23. I am a US citizen and my husband is a Canadian citizen living in Canada. I am filling out the I-1864 Affidavit of Support. I have a question about Part 6: Sponsor's Employment and Income. I am a full-time employee at a university working as a clinical counselor for the past three years. In January 2023, I also started a small private practice as a licensed mental health counselor. Would I also select #4 "Self Employed" even though it's only been 3-4 months of working a few hours a week? Would I be expected to provide proof of my self-employment even though I haven't filed taxes since I started in 2023? I want to make sure that I accurate in reported my employment. I do have the 2022 tax returns, but would not have any 1099 form for my private practice since I began the business this year. Thank you in advance for any feedback and insights!
  4. Hi everyone! Thank you again for sharing your experiences. I’d like to share an update. I reached out to my local state senator for a congressional inquiry about two weeks ago following Laurie’s example in contacting a local senator. On 4/21 (the following week), I received an I-797 Notice of Action from USCIS/California Service center approving our I-130 petition. Our case was originally assigned to Texas Service Center so they must have transferred it at some point. They are now sending our case to the U. S. Department of State National Visa Center. They state, “You should allow them a minimum of 45 days of processing before contacting the NVC.” I checked our case history again on USCIS’s website. It looks that they reviewed and approved our petition on April 18th. To clarify, our petition had never been in “Active Review” until April 18th. My husband and I do think that our senator’s congressional inquiry helped us. As many of you have shared, it’s been confusing and frustrating waiting this long without updates or progress. We hope that the next stages in this visa process can be completed without further delay or issues. Although I understand that the next steps aren’t timely. I’m incredibly thankful for this Visa Journey forum for the solidarity and communication. I look forward to hearing about progress happening for everyone! I’ll continue to provide updates. All the best!
  5. Hi Laurie, Thank you for sharing your process. I applied to petition for my husband (Canada) in late December 2021 and we still haven't heard back. It just shows that they sent a receipt on December 29, 2021. We were assigned to Texas Service Center. I had tried to submit the case inquiry on March 25, 2023 since that was the date provided but then they changed it to July 2, 2023 the day that I tried to ask about our application. I have a PDF file saved showing that we could ask on or after March 25th. I am interested in filling out the service request. Where did you locate the service request? Thank you in advance for your insights! Also I apologize if you have shared those steps in the thread. Joanna
  6. I (US citizen) submitted a 1-130 to sponsor my husband from Canada in December 2021. Now, I’m going to file a K-3 visa application with the hope that it could get processed sooner than the marriage visa application. When filling out the K-3 visa application I then realized my husband’s passport expires later this year. We are wondering whether or not he should renew his passport since the immigration application has the current passport number which will likely expire before they process our application. If he renews it now will we be able to get it updated on our application? What are the pros and cons of renewing his passport now versus later? Thanks in advance for feedback and insights!
