hi everybody..just have some question..i know some needs a simple understanding but i just want to make sure before we file our papers...all your answers, comments and suggestions will all be appreciated..thanks in advance...

first: i just want to know it do you really need to have a cover letter for the appication of K1 visa?

second: one of the requirements are the birth certificate and passport of the petioner...is it only the copy of each or the original one? i know theres no problem with the birth certificate coz you can always get one but how about the passport? if just a copy will be needed, which part of the passport are we need to photocopy?

third: on the part of proof of having a relationship me and my fiance have been talking for more than 2 years and i have saved every chat (yahoo/msn)/emails (do we need to print it all?), receipts, cards he sent me and i sent thousands over thousand of emails, pictures, special presentation, ecards, cards and mails through snail mail...do we need to send it all just to prove the relationship and not to get a request for more evidence? does it need to be original or photo copy will be accepted?

just that for now...i hope someone will enlighten me in regards to these...thank you so much...

Yes, it's recommended to have a cover letter for the full I129F application you're sending to USCIS. It's also recommended to have a complete checklist of items that's included in the package - helps to organize things for them, and helps you to ensure that everything's there.

A copy of either is necessary to prove that your USC fiance is a citizen. The back and the front of the birth certificate needs to be photocopied, or the full contents of the passport (every page).

third: on the part of proof of having a relationship me and my fiance have been talking for more than 2 years and i have saved every chat (yahoo/msn)/emails (do we need to print it all?), receipts, cards he sent me and i sent thousands over thousand of emails, pictures, special presentation, ecards, cards and mails through snail mail...do we need to send it all just to prove the relationship and not to get a request for more evidence? does it need to be original or photo copy will be accepted?

For submitting proof of relationship, the majority of it can be saved for the interview process. What's necessary is to prove that you and your fiancee have met within the last 2 years. If you have boarding passes and hotel receipts that will help. Emails, cards, photos and snail mail are only considered secondary evidence which will back up any primary evidence that you have.

As a final note, I suggest you read the K1 guides to help familiarize yourself with the process. That'll also help answer any other questions you may have.

Hope that helps! Good luck! :D

I would just add a word of counsel. When you find yourself asking "Do I really need to..." questions about things you are clearly instructed to do by the guides or form instructions, it's time to take a breath. This is serious business and no effort should be spared. Second, read the instructions carefully and literally. Don't miss words like "copy" or "every page" when you read the instructions. Slow down. Third, don't kill yourself with why questions. Many parts of the process may not make sense to you. Some don't seem to make sense to anybody. Just do it.

Fourth, read a lot more than you post. There is a wealth of information here in the Guides and by reading the questions and answers of others. As you read and learn, your confidence level will greatly increase.

You did mention if you have proof of having met in person within the last two years. You mentioned proof of relationship. Does he have boarding passes, stamps in his passport, boarding passes or anything else that can show that he was there with you in person? This is the most important requirement for eligibility for the K-1 visa.

All the emails, chats..etc are good to have and it's ok to send a hand full of each..take emails and chats from each month of the entire relationship, snail mail cards, phone records..etc

They will require to see pictures, of the both you you together, proof of meeting over the past 2 years.

If you havent met in in person as stated in question 18 on the I-129F you need to select "NO"

Describe the circumstances under which you met. If you have not personally met each other, explain how the relationship was established. If you met your fiancé(e) or spouse though an international marriage broker, please explain those circumstances in Question 19 below. Explain also in detail any reasons you may have for requesting that the requirement that you and your fiancé(e) must have met should not apply to you.

Good Luck to you both...

The K-1 guide here on VJ was very helpful for us. The beneficiary will need to long version of the birth certificate that lists both parents. The beneficiary can get that through the NSO. It is my understanding that it can be acquired through the online now.

Don't worry. All this information is provided in the guides. The VJ guides are great!

Yes, include a cover letter. Submit copies of original, unaltered documents. See my RFE Response list in "Arrggh" for more details.
