Travel without physical reentry permit, permit valid

10 year GC holder has been outside of the US for over 18 months, but has a reentry permit (biometrics given before they departed the US), permit is still valid.  The reentry permit was delivered to their US address. so they only have their GC with them.

In this situation, can they travel to the US on this 10 year GC but before the reentry permit expires?

They can show a scan of the reentry permit to the officer at the airport if that helps (or can their system see that there is a reentrt permit, just not with the traveler)

Get somebody to send it to them

That is the obvious solution, yes.

But I am curious as to what could happen if they were unable to acquire the physical reentry permit before they travel.  Specifically, what would happen once they land in the US (assuming that they were allowed to board their flight)

On a recent thread it was discussed that an LPR can reenter the US without a reentry permit even after a long absence.

Based on that I guess you wouldn't have an issue showing a copy of the reentry permit.

Do you have a link to the thread?

The only ones I saw recommended getting an SB-1

So basically, it is possible to travel, but expect to hear a lot when you enter the US.
