1. You do not need or lawyer and yes you can fire the current and switch or do without any.

 

2. But, in the stage of waiting for a shipped document it a terrible point. You would need to report the card missing and add a change of address. 
 

3. Major point: send a change and address and have everything rerouted to you. This can cause delays. 
 

I would definitely try my best to hunt my current card down and then change address after. But if it’s impossible then report lost/stolen but this can cause delays while researching.

good news, turned out the card was in post but not checked by the lawyer staff.
