Traveling on "expired" extension letter?

Hi all, I have a I-751 petition pending, and my 18 month extension letter expired this September. I know USCIS extended the validity of extension letters to 24 months, but they also have on their website that they will be issuing new ones for 24 months, but I still havent received the new one for 24 months. My question is if I can travel internationally on my current extension letter. I called USCIS and the lady told me I can, and that they dont send out new extension letters for pending petitions automatically, and that as long as it is within that 24 month period, it is ok, but I'm not sure because the letter says it is valid for 18 months which have already passed and I dont want to risk not being able to board a plane back to the US.

Has anybody have any experience with international travel since this September extension with an expired notice?

No you can not, you will not be able to fly back to the USA airlines will not allow you to board. I recommend scheduling an infopass appointment to get an i551 stamp in your passport before you depart. Let USCIS know you have an urgent need for stamp for travel and bring proof of your trip.

If you get the orignal copy of the 24 months extension letter in hand then you will be good to go without a stamp.

Thank you, I will try to schedule an infopass again. I tried before and they told me that the office is still closed, unless it's an emergency travel.

I just got a stamp on my passport a couple weeks ago. I told them that I didn’t have a ticket or a date to travel but that I had a 80 years old grandmother in Brazil with health issues and that I just want to be able to go there and be with my family in case that hear health declines and I have to go right away.

Only emergency appointments makes no sense, what if you need to renew your drivers license? Or if your employer asks you for a copy of your VALID green card?

The stamp is valid for one year and according to the USCIS agent, it’s basically a green card.

Good luck!
