Hi all, this is my first post so i hope i do it right, anyways to get to the point, I have a girl friend that is from the philippines and is now working and living in Dubai UAE, we met online and have chatted and talked on the phone now for awhile long story short, we would like to meet in person and take this relationship to the next level, and possibly pursue the K1 visa, but first we need to meet in person as part of one of the requirements of the K1 visa right, so can she come here to the USA on a visitors visa for us to meet, instead of me going there or what can i expect with her applying for a visitors visa. Just wondering what the best course of action is here any input would be greatly appreciated.

Sense it is easier for you to travel to other coutries than it is for her due to the fact that it takes so long to get a visa for countries that do not have the visa wavier program. I would say go see her and have a good time.

Dubai is an awesome place to visit. I would recomend it with no hesitation. I got my visa on arrival and know for a fact that Americans can also get their visas on arrival. Great place to visit and lots of great things to do. Just dont go there May-Sept... too hot.

We tried the visitors visa route twice and were denied both times. I ended up going to see him and I'm so happy I did. You may have better luck with the Embassy there but don't get your hopes up. A back up plan to go see her is a good idea. Good luck, I hope you have a great time either way!

She may or not may get a tourist visa.

In terms of understanding the culture a little better, there is nothing better than going to her country to get

an insight into her way of life. This helps tremendously for later cultural adjustments in the US.

What was the reason for when getting denied twice?

check out travel.state.gov for the skinny on getting tourist visas. they can be difficult for many people from many countries. the usual reason for a denial is insufficient ties to the home country - meaning, the embassy considering the visa application needs to be assured that the applicant in fact means to VISIT and won't just jump ship and stay, skirting immigration laws.

ties are usually shown through financial documents: mortgages, jobs (a letter from an employer saying so-and-so has 2 weeks off and will be back at her desk on x date), bills, leases, ties to family, kids, custody arrangements, etc. but even with everything right on paper, they can still say now.

usually, the biggest thing you'll lose if you apply and are denied is the visa application fee. not TOO much money to gamble. a tourist visa denial will NOT negatively effect a k1 application later (unless an applicant lies and gets tagged as inadmissible due to misrepresentation).

can you meet in a third country that might be easier to travel to for both of you? something in europe?

(i've always wanted to go to dubai though - could be fun, though very far, of course).
