Hello.

has anyone obtained a drivers license with i485 noa1? Still don’t have my EAD. I’m in Raleigh area. I heard @Greenbaum was able to get one a few years ago so apparently it’s possible, I’m just wondering which DMV I should go to?

My wife got hers at the end of May. Valid until late December.

From the NC DMV website, for a NC driver's license to prove lawful status in the US you'll need:

I-797 Notice of Action receipt notice

Not acceptable for REAL ID

Must be accompanied by supporting immigration documentation (I-551, I-766, I-94)

If your I-94 has expired looks like you'll have to wait until you receive your EAD or green card.  This is common in many states.  NC does not yet have an undocumented immigrant driver's license like California, there is a proposed bill in the NC Senate but it has not been passed into law and may not be approved.

I’ll update to add that she was able to get a Real ID. Obtained while her I-94 was still valid. NOA1 for AOS allowed it to be an extra 6 months’ duration.

I renewed my d.l in feb 2021 using i485 receipt Noa1. They had to verify using SAVE. It took like 3 days before they got any feedback from USCIS to let me proceed with the application. It is only valid for 1 year. Not real ID.

Thank you so much! WIll apply for a DL soon. Idc if its Real ID or not , still have my passport so I can use that for flights, its just tough not having an US DL. Which DMV office did you go through btw?
