This made me cry. Thank you to all the soldiers past present and future. YOU are the reason we enjoy our freedoms.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

Other nations may find it distasteful, that you'd glorify the agents of American Aggression.

I don't aggree with this statement--however, I do find it troubling that every single holiday now is just a repeat of Veteran's Day and Memorial Day--and echoes the support of the iraq war--yet with different reasons--No WMDs, Saddam is Dead--lets get the hell out of Iraq--that would be the best way to honor our country's birthday--make peace not war--bring them home safe and sound. Lets get back to Baseball and Apple Pie instead of another rallying cry from a lame duck leader pleading for support of a war that has no support. And still we have not caught the culprits of 9/11. But anyway our constitution has been so watered down by this administration that the signers of the declaration of independence are rolling over in their graves.

Great Video LisaD! It's a shame that some people manage to get offended by it though. I sincerely hope that they never have to call upon an "Agent of American aggression" for help one day.

It wasn't a specific mention solely to the Iraq war...every man in my family has served in the military. My grandfather (years ago) founded a chapter in the Disabled American Veterans...I grew up around quadruple amputee veterans, veterans with all sorts of illnesses, veterans with all sorts of problems. All because they served their country.

How you feel about the war is irrelevant towards the actual soldiers.....THEY are the reason we sleep so soundly. I will never miss an opportunity to honor those who have sacrificed themselves for their duty.....and tbh, to turn this into a thread about politics and the whys and wherefores of Iraq seems to be a disrespectful to our brothers and sisters in the military. Politics aside, these people should be honored. They didn't vote to give Bush authority to go to war....they're just the grunts to do the work while he dems and repubs alike voted with overwhelming authority to send them there.

But then again, I'm reminded of stories my Dad told me like after serving two tours of duty in Nam in a USMC recon platoon, he was spat upon his return to America. He didn't ask to go, he didn't draw the plans, he didn't have anything to do with America's decision. But he served his country and did his duty, yet was spat upon by his countrymen nonetheless.

Our veterans & soldiers should always be thought about, but on days where patriotism is high, I wave my flag and think to myself about all those men and women who fought, sacrificed, and those who died so it could fly. If that's troubling to anyone, tfb ;)

The Soldier

It is the soldier, not the reporter,

who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet,

who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,

who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier, not the lawyer,

who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the soldier,

who salutes the flag,

who serves under the flag,

and whose coffin is draped by the flag,

who allows the protester to burn the flag.

So very, very well said Lisa: Thank you. Being married to an Active Duty US military member (or should I call him an "Agent of American aggression"?) I come across this subject quite often, and a thing I really admire about the American people as I have seen it is the way they *are* able to separate their feelings about the ongoing conflict from the people who have been sent there.

Until those of you who bring political ####### and your views on the conflict at a strategic level have had to wait for your own loved ones to come home from a deployment, perhaps you could leave people in this thread to respect and salute the troops as they wish.

Thanks LisaD for the post.

As for the negative comments, it never ceases to amaze me the people who live in and enjoy the freedoms of America, who want to come live here, who want to bring the person they love to America, still find the desire to talk trash about America. I always wonder why don’t you go live in another Country if America is so bad.

sorry Lisa - I tried several times to set your inital post invisible so the 2nd one would display first. I guess if the 1st post is "invisibilized" it makes the whole thread disappear  . The only way to fix that is to split the topic.

ahh sok,...just leave it then, not such a biggie.

Thanks for tryin L

and a big ITA to Candace and Tim&Lana

Thanks for the post, LisaD. As a veteran, it's always nice to see the support for troops, past and present, who make so many sacrifices, even during peacetime. (F)

No, THANK YOU! You and all the other soldiers and families who have made the sacrifices.

You all rock!
