Interview coming in NYC - New job in Indianapolis...

After a long hibernation, I finally got a good job in another state, starting in few days however my interview and family are in NYC. The employer is in a Republican state, so they are requiring me to be on site, no possibility to work remotely as far as they are signaling. I was thinking of flying out after work the day before the interview, spend the night, do the interview around 12PM, and leave later that day. However, I am worried about the COVID tests and quarantine requirements between NY and Indiana because I can't afford to miss work for 2 weeks .My worse case scenario is to reschedule the interview, to probably later this year, when the whole family is in Indiana, as I am not in rush to get any greencard...What are your thought on this issue?

- Feb 22 2020 - Mailed Application (I-130, I-845....) to Chicago

- April 22 2020 - NOA 1

- June 1 2020 - RFE for I-944

- June 24 2020 - Replied to RFE

- Oct 25 2020 - Fingerprint done

- Nov 9 2020 - Case ready to be scheduled for interview

Hi,

Your post is a bit confusing.  Did you get the job or were you pre-selected for an interview for the job?  Do you currently live and work in NY and the new job is in Indiana?  Also, you are "not in a rush to get any greencard"...if you do not have a greencard, how are you working in the US?  Do you have an EAD or a temporary worker visa through your current employer?

Assuming you are currently living and working in NY and the job interview is in Indiana, there is a 3 day quarantine requirement when you return to NY if you were in the other state for more than 24 hours.  You would also need to have  a Covid test prior to returning to NY and then take a second test after the 3 days of quarantine (on day 4 of returning to NY).   If you can arrange your travel to be less than 24 hours away from NY, then quarantine is not required.   You need to fill out a traveler form and take a Covid test on day 4 after returning to NY.

Hi,

I signed the job offer, which means that I already finished all interviews; I need to relocate there before the 15th because I can't work remotely. I have a work permit already through this sponsorship application...

I need to start working two weeks before the interview, so my plan was to go there, start working. And then, come back to NY for the interview...On some website, it said that I am not required to take covid test when flying within the US. However, I know that NY requires COVID negative at arrival...I could manage to take the test in Indianapolis before departure to NY. However, what about my return flight? My duration in NY will be short, 24h, which means I won't be able to get another covid test done before my departure...Will the airlines allow me to return?

Another of my option was to reschedule this interview all together, since there are a lot of assumption in the above scenario...

My mistake - I thought you meant job interview instead of the AOS interview.

Officially you cannot attend your interview in NY on a day/overnight trip.  Currently the mandatory quarantine in NY is 3 days as long as you can test for and get a negative covid result on day 4.  And you need a covid test 72 hours or less prior to your trip to NY.  There is no provision in the NY travel order for exemptions for 1 day business trips/meetings.  If you can take 4 days off from work, or less depending on what day your interview is scheduled (for example, Monday appointment would only require taking Friday off from work), then it would be better to keep your current interview.  There does not seem to be any travel restrictions returning to Indiana.

If the above is not feasible, then request to transfer your case to the nearest field office in Indiana and reschedule your interview.

As @milimelo stated, you will need to fill out and submit AR-11, regardless of what you decide for the interview.

Are you assuming they won't let you work remotely because they're in a Republican state? Have you specifically asked if you could work remotely for a *limited period of time* to accommodate your AOS interview? This interview is a pretty big deal...

March 2019: Married, Filed I-130 in April 2019

AOS: Filed June 10, 2020, Received June 13, 2020, Cheque cashed July 16

(I-130 approved in Oct 2019 because we were originally doing consular CR-1 processing)
NOAs July 24 (dated July 17) 2020
Biometrics Jan 7, 2021 (notice dated Dec 12, received Dec 22)
Case updated to 'Interview Scheduled' (Jan 19, 2021, received letter Jan 25)

February 24! Interview! New Card being produced!

Feb 25, 2021: Case approved.

March 1, 2021: Card was mailed

March 4, 2021: Green Card Received! 🥳

March 25, 2021: SSN Application
March 29, 2021: Received SSN
Dec 5, 2022: I-751 ROC Delivered to Lockbox

They have been stressing on working on site since the beginning, so I kind of started mentioning anything remote. But I think

Very tricky situation...The interview is on Tuesday...If my first test (72h prior flight) is negative, am I still required to Quarantine after arrival? Or if I could test once in NY and get negative, does that mean I won't need to quarantine? Can I even get tested right after my arrival, since that will require me going to the test location? Oh gosh...

I would hate to go through all that and then get tested positive (God forbid!!!).

Nothing serious about the Rep comment...However, they have been stressing out on working on site for some reason. The manager emailed me today asking if I need anything, I think I will mention it in my response as heads-up...Even if he agrees, it might take more than 1 day trip, probably a week at least

The 3 day quarantine is required along with the testing.  There is a second option without testing, but that requires at least 10 days of quarantine.
