EAD fee for renewal - AOS NOA1 after Oct 2nd?

Hey y'all,

 

So I'm asking for a friend that needs advice (yes, I know, I know. I'll get her in here eventually.)

 

Her AOS NOA1 is 10/17 and she doesn't recall if she had to pay a fee or not for her EAD/AP. I'm guessing probably not if it was mailed before Oct 2nd but not processed until the 17th?

 

She now needs to renew her EAD while her AOS is pending and the exemption states its for applicants who "filed for adjustment of status on or after July 30, 2007 and before October 2, 2020" and paid the appropriate fee.

 

So, our question is: to pay the fee or not to pay the fee?

She definitely didn't pay for it. The fee changes also never happened. EAD and AP are still free. 

 

And how is she already applying for renewal if she just applied for AOS last October?

probably different visa  before AOS.
