Clarification on "passport place" on ustraveldocs

We are in the process for filling scheduling the visa interview via us travel docs. One of the question is this:

 

 

Our position: The passport was issued by the Indonesian consulate general in Turkey. So it was physically provided in Turkey, but authorized by Indonesia. Does that make the answer to this question Indonesia or Turkey?

An embassy or consulate is always considered territory of the respective country. So Indonesia issued the passport, not Turkey.

Assuming there is a different question about what nationality your passport is (and therefore it is clear you have an Indonesian passport), I'd put Turkey since the passport was issued in Turkey. 

 

My wife, when applying for visas, would list the USA as her passport issuance place since hers was issued at the consulate in San Francisco.

This was also my thinking. If I remember right, when I used the US Travel Docs website there are two separate fields for Passport (referring to one's nationality) and Passport Issuance Place (referring to the country/consulate where one's passport was issued).

@Adventine @usmsbow Right, there was a distinction between the two, so we went with Turkey as the issuance place. Thanks for the help everyone!
