Hi VJ family,

I'm here again with more questions to try to figure out the best outcome of my current situation. Thank you in advance.

Some background for context:

We filed our i-129f petition mid-2019 while I was still employed earning way above the necessary guidelines by i-864p. Since then, we've received our NOA2 March 3rd, right before the March 17th COVID-19 shutdown (at least in the US consulate in Brazil). We've finished our DS-160 and scheduled our interview for November 3rd 2020. In between these dates (DS-160 and Interview), the job I worked at is no longer open due to the quarantine, and I'm currently placed in Brazil awaiting the interview date with my fiancé. I've been making income as a freelance linguist (interpreter/translator) online, through various sites, platforms, and at times with private clients through word-of-mouth.

I don't have a current employer, but I do have sufficient evidence for the financial support through my bank statements and last 3 years of my tax returns. My main issue of concern is the "no current employer" part be an issue during the interview. Given this preset, am I still able (or if I even should) include a joint sponsor in time for the interview? I understand I'd need to present another i-134 and all necessary documentation to prove the co-sponsor's eligibility, but is this still allowed since we already filed the DS-160? Is there something else I'm missing regarding the financial side of things?

Please help me see some light in this.

Thanks,

Rich & May

Yes, you are allowed to present an I-134 from a co-sponsor at the interview.  I recommend it, given your current lack of a stable US-based income.
