I went to the DMV site of WA but couldn't find anything about Immigrants..........so could someone here tell me how easy or difficult it'll be to obtain a license in WA? I heard you have to provide 5 (!!!) forms of ID.Well heck I don't even have 5 forms of ID.

Have never been driving so.......any advice or info on this?

They do seem to make it a sound bit complicated but it isn't as bad as it looks.

You will need proof you live in the State. A utility bill will do so have your name added to one of the bills, in Oregon I just took in a statement from our bank account.

Proof of ID. If you wait until your green card arrives that will cover that. If you don't want to wait your passport, birth certificate and driving licence from your home country. In fact the list of suitable documents is so long I would think most people would already have want is need just by going through the visa process.

I gave the DMV in Oregon my passport, UK licence and bank statement, all they looked at was my passport.

As you don't have a UK licence just pick another document from the list http://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/idproof.html#identity.

Nat, this might help:

http://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/idproof.html

Do you have a DL from Germany? If you do, you merely need to show it, fill out the app form, give them proof of residency (mail sent to your WA address works) and show your visa. Hope this helps.

I believe I needed to take my passport, birth certificate and some proof that I lived in WA state (bank account statement, etc.). I had a Canadian driver's licence for 30 years prior to moving to the U.S., but I still had to take the written and driver's tests in order to get my WA licence. I was so ticked off!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh well, thankfully, the tester I got for the driver's test was WAY more interested in asking me questions about how difficult it is to immigrate to the U.S. than she was in testing my driving abilities. She knew if I had been driving for 30 years I hardly needed a test now!!! But, the rules are the rules.
