The forum software is out of date, and fell victim to a Hostgator server upgrade. The new server software isn't compatible with our old forum software (IPB).

Dan is exploring our upgrade options with the IPB help line, but hasn't reported back yet.

Any chance the site will ever come back? Used to love seeing the articles about China, even though the crowd was small, it was loyal and highly informative. Otherwise, I'll be taking it off my bookmarks - what heartbreaking situation. 😪  Please PM me if the site needs financial support as well

Oh God - it's gone. Wish I could've said goodbye to some of they guys I've known over 10+ years and gotten alternate contact info for them (esp Greg D., amberjack, TsapTseu, Randy W., Dan Noblett, Catherine, Tryg, Mick, and that one guy whose wife kept spitting on him....). If anyone sees this - PM me, and wish you guys all the best.

The problem is we've skipped upgrades for the last 5 years. Dan is often on the road, but is still working on it. Our fees are paid through Sept., 2021, so I expect it will be back up and running.

Mick is still a moderator at CFL, but no one has heard from him since Aug., 2019 and we fear the worst because of his medical condition.

 

The others, except for trigg, still check in from time-to-time. What was your member name?

Too heartbreaking to talk about the end CFL Randy.... It was great while it lasted.

Dan has his email set to auto-reply, ”I'll be working on it this weekend", so I'm still hoping that weekend will  come.

 

As far as I can tell, he DID pay the fees for a year beginning Sept. 21, and HAS uploaded the IPB software.

Another major loss IMO are the thousands of photos from the early 2000s through 2014 or so.... it was fun to peruse them once or twice a year when I felt nostalgic about the "golden era" for foreigners in China...

The database is still intact. It may still be possible to resurrect the old forum.

It's not clear what your objection is to our server.

 

It was created in Dec. 2001 when,  in the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center, immigration from China was shut down with no word from the consulate as to what was going on. It was started for both Chinese and Russian immigration, and also has a dating site. That part never got off the ground.

Don't pay attention to that post or poster. It's a post with an embedded link trying to get people to buy candles and it's spam. There's been an uptick in this kind of "look like they're actual posts" spam recently on VJ and the mods have asked us to report it where we see it. I reported it. :)
