Wow, thank you sooo much, everybody. You are wonderful!!!!

hmmm... That is funny blackbettie we have the same b-day and have the same idea for a perfect wedding

Hahaha! Wouldn't it be funny if we ended up on the same beach, the same evening? Now THAT would be a visajourney moment to remember!

We were originally planning to have a beach wedding... we ended up nixing the idea (for one thing I arrived in the middle of winter and even in Florida the beach gets mighty cold and uninviting in December!) But I was going to get an unconventional 'gypsy' style white dress with lots of lace and a handkerchief hem.

I was already considering some sort of gypsy/ hippie style dress for me too... with a big flower in the hair instead of a veil or so. But I'm still so unsure! I guess I'll just keep looking at all different kinds of dresses and then when I see the right one, then I'll know that it's the right one.

black bettie - there's a spot on Zuma beach in malibu (a little fa north from you) that is absolutely lovely - right near point dume there is some cliffs. If you get your timing right you could do it at the same time as one of those mindblowing california sunsets. there's also a nice little restaurant nearby if you were having a dinner. I've seen lots of wedding there before (and one time a porno shoot, but never mind about that...)

THANK YOU so much!!!! I'm gonna look that one up. Man, wedding place, mindblowing sunsets AND porn set - that sounds just PURRRFECT!

AOS & EAD:

10/13/2006 - sent AOS and EAD documents

10/18/2006 - NOA1

11/02/2006 - biometrics appointment in Santa Ana

We got married on the beach at sunset in Florida, barefoot and it was beautiful. We did it on the beach in front of the hotel we were staying at - and no, you can't reserve the beach! But by that time of day everyone else had gone indoors to have dinner.

I think if you want arches and tikki candles etc you have to have the wedding quite a bit before sunset so that the organizers can clear everything away and be off the beach before dark. (The local laws in Florida forbid people on the beaches at night?)

I wore a short strappy floaty cream dress and hubby wore pants and a bright green shirt.

Each beach has it's own rules on times and stuff. Each beach being the property of the city/township it is in.

We used to do things on the beach at night in St. Augustine, Florida all the time.

How do you reserve a beach--will it be a surprise as to who else is there?

lol. I wondered the same thing. I'm getting married in connecticut by the ocean. two halls are right on the beach that i want. cant decide which one is better yet. one is ceremony on the grass of a cliff with the back drop of the of long island sound ( i think that's the name.)

I'd also recommend theknot.com; if you ask a question on their bulletin boards you get a lot of answers quick! For locations I'd post in one of the California boards asking for suggestions; maybe post in the "planning" section for questions about what to wear etc.

Good luck, it sounds like it will be beautiful!

Here's a company that does weddings at the beach I mentioned. You may not want or need to use the services, but there's some general information and pictures.

This is something I had been considering myself.

Oh, and here is the restaurant I mentioned that is nearby:

Again, thank you, everybody! I'm gonna use all the advise you gave me.

I'll definitely post pictures on VJ after the wedding.

And damn, - like some others - now I'm worried too that someone else will have their wedding on the same beach! hmmm... .

@robinklake: I'll definitely have a look at Zuma beach once I'm over in the States. You were sure right about the mindblowing sunsets...

And that restaurant looks nice too!
