Hello! This is my first time posting here in Visa Journey so please bear with me :).  I am from the US and my husband is from Bosnia...we have been married for a year and a half and are finally in a place where we can file for his Spousal Visa!  We travel a lot for work so I never got around to changing my name and now with work on hold I am ready to start doing this.  My question is will changing my name affect the filing process?  If I file then change my name will that be an issue or should I change my name ahead of time and then file?  I appreciate any help or personal experiences :)

Hi, one thing I learned from all this journey is that you have to have all your documents match, so my opinion is you should change the name there for it won't be any confusion when it comes to filling. Uscis can be sometimes pain and the whole process. This is just my opinion maybe someone else has a better idea. Good luck and nek je sa srecom

When we were starting the visa process, a lawyer advised us that it might be easier to wait with changing the name until the visa is issued. Mostly because all our documentation, flight tickets, bank accounts, etc was under my wife's maiden name.

Ok! I am thinking I will just go ahead and wait as well. I don’t want to take a chance and mess anything up all because my name has changed! Thank you for sharing your experience!

Changing your name is your own personal choice.  Whether or not you do it and if you chose to do so, whenever you did it has not bearing on the process in any way, shape, or form.
