Whatever bad things that might 'happen' to us as a result of these relationships we have with foreigners could very well happen right here in the good 'ole USA, by an American Citizen. It's a chance we all take, no matter who we marry.

It's already bad enough I'm sure most of us had to go through some measure of explaining to the rest of our families why we had to be with someone not of this country.

I remember when I made my first trip to London in the first place, and my father of all people threw the biggest fit about how if I got put in British jail he wasn't going to bail me out or some mess.

Yeah, there are people out to scam the country and others, that will never change, but the American marriage system is so broken and screwed up in general now anyway that two Americans can get married, the woman can high-tail it off immediately, and get all the guy's assets in alimony!

the other thing that never seems to cross some people's minds is that perhaps some of us are not burning up to get to the States... I personally have never had a real desire to even visit, let alone move there; of course I'm happy to, and am making plans and trying to look forward to things there, but my heart is in Europe... I always dreamed of living in Europe, and when I finally moved here and loved it so much I was so happy

the only reason my SO didn't come to join me is because he's got a son, and while he's almost old enough to be without his dad for extended periods, my SO didn't want to leave him before he finished high school, and I applaud that, so I'm the one making the move

some of these idiots who are making all manner of assumptions about these hordes of foreigners desperate for green cards should try to get their tiny minds around the fact that everyone is DIFFERENT, and so are all our situations

And what I think a lot of people forget is not every USC who is petitioning for a fiance(e)/spouse is born and bred here.

How many of us on the boards are naturalized US citizens? How many of us spent a significant amount of time outside the US? How many of us grew up outside the US?
