Son's passport

Since my husband  cannot immigrate to us due to Trump ban, can someone help me on how i can get the birthabroad form notarized in Lagos embassy.  (The condition for issuance here in US is that the dad have to sign and notarize it at the embassy close to him).

I want to go home and i want to take my son with me. 

Please help!!

You are a US Citizen and asking about the CRBA?   https://ng.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/birth/    Get the documents together and contact American Citizen Services.

I am Legal permanent resident but my son is a citizen and has a US birth certificate. Do we qualify?

If he has a birth certificate and a passport then he is ready to go.

 

If you are needing to get him a passport then you need to get a DS-3053 done overseas.

Yes. That's the problem. Due to covid 19, all embassies are closed 😭.

Contact ACS and ask them to allow the father to come in and notarize the DS-3025.  Embassies are open for certain services for an American Citizen.  Consulates are closed.   AbujaACS@state.gov   LagosACS@state.gov.

It is completely up to ACS but they should be able to assist since this is for your son.

A colleague suggested another options would be to utilize the DS-5525 https://eforms.state.gov/Forms/ds5525.pdf which is used usually when the other parent is unable to be located or unable / unwilling to sign.

 

from the form:

Your request may qualify as a special family circumstance if the minor's family situation makes it exceptionally difficult or impossible for one or both of the minor's custodial parents/legal guardians to provide the notarized, written consent.

 

If you have a local US Passport Agency, that is open, I'd try this as a last resort.
