Can we submit DS-160 before receiving anything from NVC?

We got our NOA2 on April 6th and have our case number from NVC as we called and were given it by someone on the phone, but our case has been showing as "At NVC" since mid April and we haven't had any welcome email from NVC and they of course haven't sent it to the embassy yet because of everything going on. We just want to know if there is anything else we could be doing in the meantime to speed up the process of booking an interview when the time comes. Are we able to fill out and submit the DS-160 at this stage or does our case need to be at the embassy to do that?

Thanks!

Hi,

Can I ask who you called for the case number? I’m waiting for mine for London IVU.

Best,

Gaz

Are you also filing through the London embassy? Or did you file with an NVC

Not sure what you mean. We filed the I129F with USCIS in January and it was approved April 6th and USCIS sent it to the NVC. The NVC then assign a case number and process it, then will send it to the London Embassy. But because the Embassies aren't open right now the NVC are holding everyone's cases there. If you call the NVC and ask them they can provide you with your case number which means you will be able to track your case progress online here https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?App=IV (not much movement though as the cases are just sitting at the NVC until Embassies open).

Hi Gaz,

I believe you asked about this a few days ago and it seemed like you were confused in terms of the difference between applying for a CR1/IR1 visa directly with the USCIS Field Office in London (i.e. Direct Consular Filing, which you have done) and applying for a visa via USCIS/NVC in the USA. In your case, Direct Consular Filing means that you bypass the NVC. The supporting documents (e.g., Affidavit of Support) that non DCF-filers are required to submit to the NVC are instead brought with you to your visa interview at the US Embassy. Therefore, you calling NVC in the USA is not going to result in you receiving a LND number.

There is not DCF option for a K1.  Plus a Spousal does not fill out a DS-160.   It is a DS-260.

For DCF, after USCIS transfers your case to the Consulate, the Consulate will issue the number.   We had to get ours by calling in.

Yes you can submit  your DS-160.

Call for medical appointment when you have things needed (below)

Wait on case to arrive at embassy before booking an interview appointment. The system won’t let you in before that.

What else should you get in place at this point?

  • Police certificate (before medical)
  • All shots needed for AOS  (before medical)
  • shot record (before medical)
  • Healthcare summary from GP office or online (before medical)
  • short report from GP on any surgeries, depression, serious illnesses/conditions  (before medical)
  • 4 passport photos  (before medical)
  • Medical questionnaire  (before medical)
  • Letter/email from NVC or embassy that shows your LND number in writing (before medical)
  • All the items in London’s list for interview  https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee-2/required-documents/. (Before interview)

  • 3 months later...

I am in the same position as you. Submitted in jan approved in March. We called to get case number (which is not recognised on ceac website) and is just stuck.

Have filled out DS160 and did a police report. The form is now invalid due to my fiancee moving home in preparation for me coming. So the address has changed.

It is all so frustrating.

Let us know how you fare and good luck 👍 😊

The form is fine. Update the address at the interview.  Only background and  security related errors about the beneficiary need a new form submission.
